Disclaimer

If you don't intend to use this patch and only want to comment for trolling purposes, don't bother. The world doesn't need any more clowns. You're not special.

While this isn't a full retranslation like my Xenoblade 2 project, it focuses on preserving the authentic Japanese elements that were altered during localization.
At the same time, I would like to point out that this patch should be the foundation for a full re-translation. This game has such altered dialogues that a simple swap of terminology, names and names will be just polishing a turd and there is no exaggeration on my part here.

New Project Goals

I've decided to take on translating Xenoblade X's main storyline. Despite my previous reluctance, the gameplay captivated me more this time around compared to my Wii U experience. This is a much smaller undertaking than my Xenoblade 2 translation project. Main story in this game is just WAY shorter.

The differences between the Japanese and Western versions are truly staggering. Many dialogues have been completely rewritten - and I'm not exaggerating. Lin's characterization suffers the most dramatic changes; she's essentially a different character in the Western release.

I've also solved that frustrating issue where you couldn't select the original Japanese voices during the prologue and character creation (which is downright pathetic.). This patch uses the Japanese bdat folder (similar to my Xenoblade 2 translation), allowing original voice actors to be selected in the character editor.

Installation Notes:

  • Switch users with CFW: No additional steps needed. Atmosphere can force the game to run in preferred language (the config file is already included).
  • Emulator users: Simply change the region and language to Japanese in the game properties (just three clicks in Yuzu/Citron - I can't speak for other emulators).

You'll be amazed at how dramatically different the dialogues are. Even I was shocked by the extent of the localization changes.

Btw. "Sexy" voice was also censored (it was called "Cheeky" in localized version).
Btw2. The translation may still change in many places (rather than the sense itself, it is possible that there will be a need for a better wording etc).

If you want to have tutorial box images in English, you need to download this add-on to my patch. Remember that the images will not be modified, so if there is any localized name on them, those will be displayed too.

Core Philosophy

The fundamental goal of this patch is authenticity to the original Japanese version without compromising cultural elements for the sake of "Western accessibility." This isn't about making the game more "digestible" for the average player - the official localization already serves that purpose. Instead, this patch aims to preserve the original intent of character naming and terminology that was significantly altered in the Western release.

Before you start complaining because you are used to localized terms - I remind you that this patch restores the original names and your nostalgia has nothing to do here.
Many names are also changed - this will be fixed in future revisions. For now, only what is listed above has been changed.
I would like to point out that I would appreciate any suggestions on other changes that I have not yet caught (and there are certainly a lot of them)

Planned Restorations

  • Character / NPC names
  • Skill / Attack names
  • If anyone gives other examples of what has been changed, I will be happy to incorporate them into my patch.

Installation

Install it as any other mod.
This patch uses masagrator's mod loader.

Misc

Important info - if you want to do anything with the translation, do not extract these bdat from my mod. Use the json files from my gitub. Bdat-rs packs the bdat files for this game with the table names omitted, so it is (probably) a lossy process (at least for now).

Oh, and btw, thanks again to roccodev, for bdat packer/unpacker, masagrator's mod loader and Nenkai's
XbxDeTool (arh extractor).

Uncensor mod was done originally by /a/non. My patch does not use a file from an external source. I changed the values myself (removed _us suffix from common.bdat).

Hi. Thank you so much for the work !

Do you plan on modifying species/enemy groups names that became "prone" and such ?
I can't think of any other term that might need a change right now.

Edit : Ha yes an obvious one I forgot.
BB : Blue Blood. I'd love that one too, instead of mimething.

Some more I can think of :
- Overed (instead of tyrant)
- Overclock Gear (instead of Overdrive)
- Continents names (not sure if possible)

Off the top of my head (note: I haven't played the game in years so some might be wrong or in need of double checking.

Blue Blood/B.B -> Mimeosomes/Mims (this is a pretty big one because renaming them to Mims misses the entire point of chapter 11 and the reason they were appropriately named Blue Bloods to begin with)
Ganglion -> Growth
Wroth/Wrothians -> Wrath
Tainted -> Pride (not sure)
Prone -> Bias (not sure)
Lifehold Core -> Central Life
Alexa -> Axena
Hope Alanzi -> Himeri Aranji
Offensive Stance -> Aggressive mode
All region names (Oblivia, Primordia etc)
Some arm manufacturer names, examples: Orphean technologies - > Orphe Parfait etc

I am sure there is plenty more but at that point the game would need a complete retranslation, especially since the localizers at various points in the game completely rewrote conversations omitting a ton of stuff like the "Garden of Eden" and other religious terminology and references so to include them back in someone would have to retranslate the dialogue entirely.

Oh yeah, I won't even try to think about the overall translation that is a total adaptation more than a slightly faithful/smart translation.

I'd be happy with arts renamed as well I guess. Not the priority maybe, BB clearly being the most important.

Maybe we can also change "Xenoform". I don't remember the japanese word used but it feels wrong to me.

This is fantastic, thank you for doing this!

Regarding:

Do you think it's something on their radar, or is it something that we'll just have to sort out one day?

Ohh, you're doing God's work man. Guess I'll have to put my playthrough on standby until more progress is made since I can't stand the crazy localization changes in this one, dialogues specially have been altered so much I can tell even with my small japanese knowledge. Thanks a lot!

So it seems, there's a way to decensor Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition after all
Check this out when possible

the mods to uncensor the the Switch version of the game are already done!
Post automatically merged:

Quick question
if the installation method of this is the same as any other mod
that means I'm able to use SimpleModManager to install or uninstall this and the other Xenoblade Delocalization Patches?

like let's say
the 2 folders found in this and Xenoblade 3 are exefs and romfs
Moving these to either atmosphere -> Contents -> 0100453019AA8000 is correct, right

in SimpleModManager it should be the same just being like this
mods -> Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Editon -> Xenoblade X DE Delocalization Patch -> contents -> 0100453019AA8000

  • Oblivia - Oblivion
  • Primordia -> Primitive Wilderness

This is amazing, thank you. I'm already too far in to my current playthrough on my Switch but when I decide to replay the game I'll definitely use this.
To consider:
  • Cauldros -> Black Steel
  • Sylvalum -> White Tree
  • Noctilum - Luminous Forest
  • Oblivia - Oblivion
  • Primordia -> Primitive Wilderness
I'd add either "Continent of" at the start or "Continent" at the end of some.
e.g:
Continent of Black Steel / Black Steel Continent
Continent of White Trees / White Tree Continent

Oblivia should be "The Valley of Oblivion" or "The Ravine of Oblivion" or some such, no?
Could use "Noctilucent Forest" for Noctilum maybe? Might be too archaic.
Primordial would sound better than Primitive for Primordia in my opinion.

V0.0.4 (Major update)

Version 0.0.4 features completely re-translated dialogue (not just minor corrections) for the first two chapters, up through the installation of the first Data Probe.

There may also be places where some text is partially cut off due to the character limit.

does this means that the prologue undub its already included and there's no need to use this one alongside the newest update of the patch?

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition Prologue undub

No, this is done in completely different way and it's advised to remove that patch if you want to use this mod.
But the end goal of both its to let the user play the Prologue with the Japanese Audio, right?
I'm planning on using the Delocalization Patch myself
So what should I need to know and what problems I can encounter if I use both of them at the same time?

no, end goal of this mod is to get proper translation for Japanese audio in whole game with access to Japanese audio since the beginning.

There is literally 0 (zero) reasons to use both at once.
