Xbox's Major Nelson has just announced that the Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature will be launching fully for everyone on November 12. Microsoft has previously claimed that there will be over a hundred X360 games working on launch, ranging from most first-party titles, and assorted third-party games. The "New Xbox One Experience" dashboard update will also be on the same day.

In other words, self-imposed limitations that were awfully stupid in retrospect now that consoles are basically just less-powerful gaming PCs. All probably just to avoid hacking and emulation, both of which happened anyway. Amazing that people still haven't realized just how much effort Microsoft and Sony put in to screwing over their customers above all else.
Yeah, right. It's not like they finally moved to a decent arch and backwards compatibility is difficult for obvious reasons. No, companies are literally Hitler, thank you for your input. Everyone should be like Nintendo, using hardware so limited that they can fit the guts of another console inside so they can guarantee their magical Wii backwards compatibility.

Ehh it's a step in the right direction, but still a big step backward from when backwards compatibility was included in the launch of a console and with support for nearly every game. It can't be that hard...the Xbox One is just a 360 with more RAM and a more powerful processor/GPU.

No, the Xbox One is NOT an upgraded Xbox 360. different architecture (x86_64) vs the 360's (PPC) and different GPU and instructions are just 2 of many differences that hinder 1:1 backwards compatibility. the Wii U on the other hand IS a upgraded Wii with a newer triple core PPC processor, more RAM, and newer GPU and the GPU and processor can use the same instructions that the Wii had allowing for near 100% backwards compatibility.

The 360 games running on Xbox One are run via an emulator whereas the Wii U runs Wii games natively.

Deny people backwards compatability, they whine like little bitches.
Give people BC, they still whine like little bitches.

As an aside, Sony fanboys need to grow up, shut up and enjoy their wonder console and stop acting like evangelists.

They did. And "finally" is the key word here. They could have moved to a decent architecture long ago, and then maybe people wouldn't have to drop $350+ on consoles that support all of four or five decent games.

....Don't try and brush over the fact you said the XO is basically just a 360 with more RAM/CPU/GPU little miss sunshine  - by your logic the latest Ferrari Supercar should be able to take you and your kids on a camping trip coz it's basically just a Volvo estate with more cylinders/torques/horsepower, and now you're covering it up by saying the SNES & Genesis should've been running on x86?
Power PC used to be a thing, it could have carried on.. Sony's Cell setup could've been a thing too, that easily could've carried on.. Betamax, laserdisc, HD-DVD, the list goes on..
PC kids these days.... ee I don't know :P

It was more hopeful than anything. I knew the PS3 used Cell, but at least it had strong backwards compatibility for PS2 titles. No reason the 360 couldn't have been running on x86 other than a piss-poor attempt at preventing hacking and emulation. From a hardware perspective I was correct, but of course I couldn't have guessed the 360 was running on some pointlessly obscure architecture.

Who's saying silly things now? Of course neither of those architectures was going to carry on. Outside of the 360/PS3, Power PC and Cell had exactly 0% of the market. Sony and Microsoft knew the architecture would be a one-off thing from the beginning.

When the 360 and PS3 were being developed, the Gamecube along with all Macs used PowerPC; Cell is still PowerPC Architecture. So much for 0% of the market. also, PowerPC at the time could crunch numbers better (PowerPC has always excelled at number crunching). considering it was pre 2005 that these console's were being developed, the 360 having a triple core (with HT) PowerPC at 3.2GHz was something that would have been expensive to do with an x86 processor at the time. clock speeds cannot be compared 1:1 with x86 processors so 3.2GHz PPC =/ 3.2GHz x86 but a triple core x86 processor would be an expensive thing to have in either console back then.

I went back to my 360 the other day and the games looked like garbage. I guess I'm spoiled now?!
It might make a few people take the plunge in to a Xbox One now, instead of replacing their broken 360 with cheap gamestop refurbs.

will iv been in the preview program for some time now and have got the new update you guys get on November 12 and It is as of right now still a little buggy so a few small things to work before the 12th and we only got to test a few games they made available, every one got to test all the 360 games that come with RARE Replay who got the game when it come out.

As for the over 100 games that they say will be out when this comes out they did not even have it were we in the preview program can test all 100 games even if we wonted too tho it would have been nice but will be happy when i can play some that will be out soon tho!

also starting in November on free games with gold the free games they have for 360 will also work on xbox one

it sucks you have to use a computer to download do the 360 game part on xbox one tho if you don't have a 360.
