I was playing 999, and was perched over the back of the couch. I ended up dropping my DS.
It went like this:
1. It fell on the floor and slid through the small opening in the handrails above the stairs.
2. It bounced off a long flight of stairs.
3. It landed with a disappointing thump onto the floor
---
Guess what? NO damage! It looks and works exactly like it did before.
---
It didn't even have a case! Wow, DS lites are strong.

Umm...good for you? Actually all DS' are pretty strong. I had to hit a wall at full force with my open DS to do any damage, and it only damaged the hinge and nothing else. I broke in half a few months later because the hinge caused screen problems...but that's not the point.

Wow I always thosuhght the ds Lites work weak becuase everone around me seems to break their L+ R buttons, I can definitely say the DS Phats can survive what your ds lite just went thriough.

So an adult (or teen) has to take hulk-like strength to break a Nintendo DS but a four year old can just drop it and it breaks?

Yeah, this is a conspiracy.
Nononononono.
She didn't drop it. She snapped it in two by stretching and literally biting it. :|

That's when you spank the kid and never give them anything anything like that again until they're 12.

Her mom doesn't "care".
The four children in that house are nuts.
1. The oldest is a girl who has had 2 boyfriends O-_O
2. The second oldest is a boy who cries a LOT +-_+
3. The next is the 4-year old girl who is pampered and ate her DS (In a Way) +-_=
4. The youngest is a boy who is fat, but so cute and is named after my last name (Dev) X-_X

There you have it.

DS Lites kinda have crummy build quality. Tons of people have like bumpers and hinges break within about two years. DS Phats are built really solid.

I don't know what the quality of DSi's/XL's are though.

I got mine in 2006, and is not damaged at all.
I know how to take care of stuff

Eh, my DSL has messed up hinges, there's a crack on the front, the R button is broken, and the stylus never stays in correctly. I've had it for 2 years though so that makes sense.

My friends DS got left outside in winter til summer when he found it and it worked perfectly, just had to charge for like 10 mins before it turned on,

My old DS Lite was pretty damn tough; It survived some big falls with little damage.

Dammit, I should have never opened it up... I fucked up the casing swap badly.

Hell, your DS is awesome if it survived that fall!

To add my two cents to the lot, my DS Lite fell down on the floor twice or thrice and now my L button often work only when I blow into it and sometimes I even have to repeat it after few minutes (like when playing Tales of Innocence). But at least that's the only damage so far and I hope it won't fall again due to any accident.

...so the TS DS survived an epic fall. i don't see how that's an epic fail though, as it got through unscathed. :/

and that kid who bit a DS in half? i think that's Sunny from An Unfortunate Series of Events (baby girl with shark teeth and lockjaws).

Lol, this reminds me of the "Jesus GBA" piece that EGM magazine did a few years ago of a white GBA original that was dropped in a toilet, wouldn't work, then magically came back to life and worked again three days later.

I think maybe that happened because it dried and all the water disappeared from it during the three days. When I took a shower with a GBA SP and noticed it's there only afterwards because somebody hid it under the large soap stand (so that it wouldn't get confiscated) I put it on the radiator and it began working about two or three days later.
