I am currently on firmware 4.x and I can't decide whether I want to sacrifice the convenience of not having to have a dongle in order to boot up my switch. What is the likely hood of a cold boot exploit releasing? I am leaning towards burning my fuses since I don't want to lose the ability to use my switch without a dongle/computer. What do other tempers do? Do you guys have burned fuses? If so, was it on purpose?

I used to prevent my fuses from burning but since emummc is a thing and you can install a chip on the switch being able to dual boot to play online stuff like splatoon and then switch to emummc to play homebrew is the best so I stopped caring about fuses. No real benefit on keeping them without burning except to restore to a previous version but I really don't see the need to.

Main purpose for the fuse serve is anti downgrade purpose. Being able to go back to a firmware that you back up is nice to have.

Yeah but I don't like that my switch would need dongle/pc to boot with autorcm. I am leaning towards burning the fuses.

After 5 years of hacking, does anyone still expect some sort of magical hack?
All the doors to the Nintendo castle that could have been opened are wide open.
Even CFW developers openly say they don't expect anything to ever be discovered for firmware 4.x.x because even they have moved on to firmware 15.1.0.
The only unexplored part is the cartreader.

I'm on firmware 15.1.0 and haven't experienced any problems or missed some feature all these years.
Payloads can be injected with about any device like my smartphone.
So having no way to inject a payload isn't really a problem.
Installing a HWFly modchip would eliminate that problem completely but it's not worth the price with an old Switch.

if you have a V1 and want a chip just get a trinket or gemma. Very cheap solution vs buying a HWFLY chip and way easier than finding an SX chip.

Not worth the hassle to me.
I think you are right. It's a huge pain in the ass just to keep the fuses.

Well this convinces me, guess I am burning my fuses....

What is the point of the chip? Pain in the ass to install when we can just use the jig no problem right?

No point in using older firmware when the system is easily supported with modchips and CFW already. We'll never get a "True" coldboot like the PSP and N3DS. Just like the Wii U will never get the ability to write your nand backup back to the nand. (Still pissed about that)

The point of the chip being that you require no extra device to manage your dual boot. Then again, if you are not experienced soldering electronics and stuff I can understand how it might seem as a hassle.
Still can deny how comfortable it is to know that I'll never have to deal with autorcm getting stuck or anything, forgetting or losing a jig, not having a usb-c cable to connect to the pc/phone, etc.

I keep fuses just for the sake of downgrade ability, if suddenly hackers will discover some hidden anti-piracy issues Nintendo put into fresh firmware since version XX.YY. But my cartridge slot is upgraded already, I've turned NoGC patch off to be able to use it.

Don't personally know anyone who has ever downgraded or wanted to. Its a hassle to retain fuses and I really don't see the benefit of going to the effort.

You don't need to burn any fuse, you just need two emuMMC.

Check my guide:

It's a bit old/outdated but this setup still works for me (latest OFW/Atmosphere).
I can play online, no ban, etc.
And Hekate is much easier to use nowadays.

I'm still on 1.0.0 fuses, not expecting any coldboot but I never turn my switch off so it's not an issue

You can turn it off, and then turn it on without a dongle.
Check the video.

Two emummc? I would just use autorcm to maintain my fuses if need be, this is even more work than just using autorcm.
