PS1/2 Would I be completely lost?

If I started Metal Gear Solid 2 without playing the first one?

It looks like a great series, but I don't have a PS1, or a PS1 memory card or the PS1 game and I'm pretty broke at the moment.

So if I started the 2nd one would I be completely lost?

They are pretty good at explaining the back stories in the MGS games, if I remember correctly. I never played the 8bit versions, but I got the jist of the story from the 3D ones. Just enjoy it!

Just get a PS1 PC emu and download the ISO? Or a PSP and the EBOOT,but as jonny said they do a good job explaining the previous game.
