ROM Hack Workaround no SD no eShop in Caputure 3DS

I just bought a capture 3DS from capturekeity. Long story short it doesn't have a SD slot. Worse it doesn't have access to Nintendo eShop to buy pokemon games. I was wondering if I could use the R4 I have to work around the issue. I need to have the virtual console versions of the game to transfer them or trade. Could I install the old firmware. Could I use the micro-SD in the R4 as an SD. What can I do to get around my issue? Right, now I am trying to use an create an image of the SD from my 3DS and restore the image onto the micro-SD that goes in the R4.
