This is cool..but I want to ask why don't they all just cooperate? ( KARL,OSKA,PAUL and GATEWait ) that would be the best wouldn't it? tbh

I have one question...

For the 3DS/3DSXL/2ds you will use the browser exploit?

For New3DS/XL you will use CN or OOT?

Thanks

Nah, they all just copy each other, re-doing everything the other does every time they do something.

Co-operation in the 3DS scene?! Crazy!

But I think you should recognize this project doesn't have so many people who are skilled enough. You still think no one is fear of Nintendo and more people will join the development?

Is it possible to have the source of the gateway launcher.dat decryptor?

I know that the information to decrypt it are all out there, but having it ready will help me to speed up some experiment.

I don't have the necessary knowledge, but how about you? :)
I have enough knowledge to reverse and write codes. I can say what is wrong in the code and how to fix.

But you should also know that I have no knowledge about hardware.
Reversing codes takes so long; I'm convinced that the further development can't be done without debugger.

If KARL had been open source, companies like GW and Sky, that profit off of piracy, would be out of business the next day. Really makes me wonder if KARL devs aren't in bed with GW & Sky. You can't prevent piracy, you can only cripple capitalization of it by providing better alternatives. Kind of like legalizing marijuana ;)

in this case though im not sure that capitalizing on it is such a bad idea, i mean i already own a GW so maybe i am bias
but it gives GW more incentive to work on new things
if we depend on scene devs doing it for free in their free time we can probably expect to wait even longer for new developments than if we are waiting for people who have financial motivation to do it
on the other hand it opens things up to more people who want to work on it rather than a small team( i assume GW is a small group of devs)

Really? You ARE aware that open source means anyone can contribute to the code/improve upon it. Just because people are being paid for a task doesn't mean they have the same level of skill as someone who isn't, either. Personally I've got a little bit of a sore spot when it comes to companies whose sole purpose is profiteering off of piracy as well (pirate all you want, IMO, but don't try and profit from it).

Not just about skill though, also about resources. Being paid, probably means Gateway have more resources, than those doing it in free time.

Look at the 7.X keys. People may hate Gateway, but without them, the 7.X keys would not have grabbed. Those were suppose to be hard to/impossible to get. Yet Gateway got them (presumable by decapping). Then Gateway's launcher was just decrypted and the keys taken from it. Being open source would not have helped with that, the 7.X keys would have been a massive roadblock.

The public decapping thing, that was backed by devs, someone just ran off with the money
