I do not own a Raspberry Pi Pico or an unpatched Switch, and before I go shopping for one I'd like to check if UDPIH is the solution to my Wii U's issue. I modded my Wii U way back in ~2017 to use Smash 4 mods. I honestly can't remember what I actually installed onto it, and I didn't back anything up like the naive 18 year old child I was. The day Smash Ultimate released on the Switch I boxed up my Wii U where it remained unused until about 2 years ago when I tried to boot it up again. The console powers on, but doesn't output anything to the TV, and while the gamepad does power on automatically, it only shows a Nintendo logo for a short while before an error appears saying it can't connect to the console. No combination of buttons being pressed on the gamepad during startup makes any difference. Powering on the gamepad before the console brings up the quick menu as normal but trying to launch anything just brings it back to the Nintendo logo before displaying the same connection error.

I've read numerous threads about UDPIH being able get bricked Wii U's running again, but I often see instructions saying to plug in your device of choice when the Wii U logo appears on either the TV or gamepad, and my console has no output and the gamepad never gets as far as the Wii U logo, just the Nintendo logo. I saw a youtube video showing someone with a similar issue that they fixed by simply removing the clock battery from the side of the system, but that didn't work for me either. I do not know which firmware version my Wii U is (or was) running on.

Is this an issue that UDPIH is likely to be able to fix, or am I dealing with a different issue entirely?

No one can 100% tell you yes or no, just buy yourself a Pico and try.
You however have to firstly confirm your system is at least 5.5.x otherwise the exploit won't trigger.

Thanks, I checked out the troubleshooting guide and it looks like I'm dealing with an OS crash. I never got any errors the last time the Wii U was working so it seems I'd likely need to defuse. I don't have any soldering experience but if I ever feel daring enough I'll give the pico a try.

You can try UDPIH first. Since it still turns on the tablet it might boot far enough for UDPIH to work. You could check if it turns the power on the USB ports on
