Alright so I just downgraded another PS3 to 3.55. If I use a HDD that has a firmware of 4.65 will it not allow me too install 3.55? Thanks!
Please only respond if you know the answer. I don't want too mess up.

Install 3.55 CFW. Then upgrade directly to 4.80.1 Rebug or another CFW like HABIB or Rogero 4.80 CFW. Once installed, take out the HDD that is currently in there. Install your 4.65 HDD. Access the recovery menu, holding the power button so it turns on, keep holding it so it turns the machine off. Turn it back on holding the power button, so it beeps once, then keep holding it until you hear a double beep. It will now be in the recovery menu. Plug in a USB disk with the PS3 CFW you used to install in this folder on your USB: PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP.

Click on system update, it will find 4.80 CFW on your USB. Install it, then you'll be back on 4.80 CFW with the other HDD you want.

Thanks I will give this a try.

Since part of the NOR will be CFW will it read the OFW at all?

When you plug in a PS3 HDD which has been in a higher firmware console it will lock you out of going to anything lower, unless you plug it in to a PC and use disport or partition magic to remove all partitions.

If you do it in the process I have said, you will be ok.

Once you install CFW and remove the HDD it goes it to a panic, so you need the same PSUPDAT.PUP you used originally to install the firmware again on new HDD's
