Funny Story: Quite a few years ago, I bought a EMS TopGun from Hong Kong.
It took a while to ship, and a few weeks later, I received a letter from the customs office, that I need to contact them for a package addressed to me.
I gave them a call, and the customs lady told me there is a package for me, and she asked me to identify the contents of the package.
I didn't really think about it, and said "It's a light gun". After a few seconds of silence, she said "I'm sorry, did you say you are trying to import a gun?"
It took me a few minutes to reassure her that it's not a real gun, it's a toy, a video game controller.
She told me i'll have to pick it up in person and open the package right in their office and they'll have to inspect the item to verify it's not a weapon.
So I get there, about an hour drive away, get in there and they bring out the package. And they open it in my presence, take out the cardboard box and proceed to inspect the light gun.
"Ok, it seems to be a toy gun, but you still can't import a firearm, even if it is a toy." Her concern was that is was firing something, be it bullets, little plastic beads or even a laser.
I had to then take another few minutes to explain the concept of a light gun to her, and reassured her, that it doesn't shoot anything. No bullets, no plastic beads, no laser.
She calls in a colleague who, apparently, is an expert for toy weapons, he inspects it closer and tells her colleague that it seems to be harmless, it's just in the shape of a gun. He tells her it's safe for me to import the item.
So I had to pay the customs fee, and was allowed to take the light gun home.
Boy, was that a long 45 minutes in the customs office.
