So I recently bought a Japanese N3DS, region changed it to EU and was quite proud of myself. But through following a YouTube video and failing to read up on the matter first, I was not informed of how important a NAND backup is. Hence I do not have a NAND backup from before the region change. I have since made one (After the region change to EU). So my question is, will this backup work in the event of my N3DS getting bricked, or will it fail as it is not using the same region that it originally had? And if not, is there anything I can do to get the original?

You should be fine. Generally speaking, you really only need the pre-swap dump if you somehow flub the swap itself. If everything went off successfully, you really don't need to worry unless you plan to uninstall CFW at a later date. Region swapped consoles brick if CFW is removed, and you have to restore them with the pre-swap dump. This site covers the caveats of region swapping, and I recommend following this in the future if you ever find yourself doing this for another console. It's written by GBATemp community members, and it'll always have the most up-to-date info.

it might still be possible to undo the change, depending on how the region change was done. if the secureinfo file only had the one region byte changed, then it's trivial to change it back to make the file properly signed again

otherwise you might still have essentials.exefs from before the region change, embedded into your nand, if you ever used godmode9 before

but anyway, a nand backup is just a copy of what you currently have on your nand. if it's currently working, then it's gonna work for bringing you back to a working state later (just, as said, it will not work without cfw)

Since you region changed, don't uninstall CFW, or you will brick.

Sorry but I’m really new to this. What does the secureinfo file mean. I followed a video on YouTube that wasn’t too complicated. Is there a way to tell what method I used to region change then work backwards. Would like to reverse the region change back to Japan to get a nand backup that’s definitely going to work. If possible of course.

Also if it gets bricked, can it be recovered with an original nand backup from before the region change or will it require further files?

Do my games come under the do-not-uninstall category? Or just stuff like hshop/FBI/cfw on homebrew launcher. Sorry if what I am asking seems stupid but I am really new to this
