The same thing happened to me. I blocked those URLs and my Wii still updated. I really hope they didn't fix the ppc exploit

Well that's very strange, this are the all IPs I blocked, my Wii U can't update, I have tryied and stills saying that is a server problem:
nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
These have worked for me, and they never fail.

Mine said it failed to download for several days. Then a few days ago I turned the console on and it had updated. I have no idea how it got through.

I had System Update turned off on my Wii U, yet it updated after some time.
I think the problema with my update was that I powered off the Wii U from a Homebrew apps, (WiiXplorer), it asked if I wanted to leave the console as Standby or another option, chose one of those and when I restarted the Wii U, it was updating.

Damn Homebrew App.

Well, only to be sure, I put off the standby mode, so now it can't update, it stills saying it can't download the update, but I will try to patch a vIOS to make the update fail to install if it achieved to download.

I would suggest everybody just delete your internet connection. It is not worth risking the update. Especially if it turns out the ppc exploit was patched.

Right, patching vIOS could be dangerous, better be safe, deleting the internet config is the best thing, thanks for the advice! now I can keep in 5.0.0 firmware!

I have added to my router to block the following website links:

nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net

And yet today after I played mario kart, and exited it, it said it was auto updating and needs to restart.

What did I miss? This is troubling =/.

Welcome to my world my WiiU did the same thing after I exited little inferno

I guess Nintendo has added more URLs that we don't have.

Or this person is taking care of the Wii U update department:

Some of the posters here say they have that URL in the block list, but Wii U still updated, others say their Wii U is not updated using the said URL in the block list. That is very disturbing to say the least.
I am Curious is anyone using wildcard in their blocked URL? I used wildcard in the slightly modified URL and it seems to be working quite well. Played online for an hour or so and update still errors out.

I have the urls blocked and my wiiu is unable to update, even if I TRY to update, the download fails, just as it should

edit: thats my blacklist:

If you don't mind me asking, what are the full URLs of akamitechnology? Are they part of Nintendo network or is that an unrelated URL block? I know a743.d.akamai.net is part of Nintendo network or servers that Nintendo uses.

if you had standby or quick boot on than it will update whenever it feels like. otherwise when it says it's preparing that's not updating it's just downloading to the wiiu so it can update but you have a chance to turn the power off when it says click ok to update after that.

I had those blocked and my wii u could not update. Then one day out of the blue I notice it's not downloading anything and I go to check the version I'm on and it says 5.1

I think they also actually try to update local Wii-U's via wifi, no joke... 3DS tries to ping other systems and do the same i believe, it was added in an update. Super serious about updating you.

also i think they were more concerned about whatever invisible updates they did to the kernel and other parts of the system to rush out 5.1 so quickly, crediar himself said the browser isn't the only way in (otherwise tbh it probably wouldnt have leaked anyway i think they would keep the better methods) so no need to pin your hopes on that alone like the 4.5 3DS exploit.
