WiiU GamePad firmware was already dumped and decrypted earlier this year (it is probably the Micron 25Q256A). A bounch of people already reversed it mainly because it is stored unencrypted. The .bin file is already available on the web so I think that soon we will know how to access this "secret menu" :)

and also something "FUN" seems to be in the finishing straight so... STAY TUNED !!! 30C3+f0f are coming to a WiiU near you !!! :yaysp:

Wonder if this would be used to control v-Wii functions using the gamepad or if that is to do with the firmware on the Wii U itself

This honestly has me excited. Marcan DID make reference to this several months ago. Stated the gamepad stuff was separate from Wii U "stuff" though. An obvious question is, since full control of the gamepad is obviously right there for the flashing, this does give a route into the Wii U...but can anyone more experienced say if this could be the hole to exploit a Wii U from? I wonder if Nintendo has upgraded the hardware of the gamepad now, lmfao. All sorts of questions.

Ray Lewis: ye i get the same impression about that post.

and ye its hard to say what can and cant be done. but even with the gamepad bein seperate stuff from the wii u they still interact with it each other. so fingers crossed some progress/information or maybe even an exploit could come of this :)

Oh man, you have no idea how happy I'll be if it gets hacked enough to use the buttons in vWii mode.

The amount that I'm hoping for that.

this could already be approached if someone wanted to do it. the buttons on the pad are bluetooth so with some extra work im guessin it could be done just within the vwii softmod. would be cool when its done but i dont see it being done for some time yet. i dont get why nintendo themselves didnt do it anyway its abit cheap on there behalf to be honest lol

Alriiiight, 11 years now!

We have thankfully gotten custom firmware on the gamepad that lets us change the region value in EEPROM, but what about that menu that the guy on neogaf got?

I can try downgrading a gamepad, but I don't think I need to explain how hard it will be to downgrade the system that much in one go: you need to downgrade boot1 and SEEPROM (with de_fuse of course), downgrade the titles to something hopefully resembling the launch day OS because nobody guarantees those titles being on NUS, and of course change the coldboot OS to OSv9 somehow.

And of course, figure out the combo to open that menu. Or accept the fact that someone messed up in production (which sucks because we're once again unaware of the how-to)
