Hacking Wiimote IR remote

Would it be possible to turn the Wiimote into an actual remote control?

I know it doesn't have enough buttons for channel dialing, but for simple things like up/down channels and Left/right for volume would be good. I mean if the PSP could do it, the Wii should be able to right?

the wii can't send infrared, it can only see it (from the sensor bar - which is actually a wrong name)

yea the wiimote has a tiny camera in it.
