The feature that has me intrigued is the Flash for apps. It makes me wonder what type of functionality it will yield. Perhaps a way to bypass the Wii Menu with a custom IOS will be made which could get interesting. Other than that it doesn't sound any different than what other recent chips do.

im glad they are back, fitted around 50 v1's an never had any complaints

Same here . Never had any of the problems people have been nagging about here and on wiinews .
Running with latest firmware and never had ANY issues with it .

Maxconsole lovers can go buy their cyclowiz for all I care and support those leeches at divineo.
I´ll rather buy a chip that is manufactured by independent idealists any day ,even though it took them 6 months to fix 1 (one) game error(SMG) ..

the wiikey upgrade that fixed SMG was released no more than three weeks after the game hit US shores.
defending the wiikey chip, downtalking chips you don't have, and the one bad thing you have to say about your wiikey isnt even correct.

"As one would expect from a Wiikey, the new Wiikey 2 comes with a host of rock solid features including..." GC Audio Streaming?!
biggrin.gif
They shipped the original without it, claimed that it had it, sold it for months without it, then held the firmware upgrade that fixed it for many more months (waiting for DMS/D2B/D2B chips to go obsolete) to scare people away from clones while claiming that they could identify them and refuse to update. To top it all off, it has been broken for many months with no acknowledgement from the team! They certainly aren't promising to fix it if they wont even acknowledge it. Instead, they claimed that it was the final update, as if WiiKey were perfected! They even let the website go away, so I'm comforted to see that it's back.

I don't really blame them for trying to undercut the clones; I just think that it's hilarious to think that they are trying to play off the original WiiKey's reputation for "rock solid features" when they couldn't even fix them or maintain proper support.

my original wiikey v1 is still doing great.. everything works on it. i dunno why everyone is crying so much, maybe its the GC problems?

anyway... stupid question: where can i find the instructions for how to do a wiikey v2 install? i know its not out yet but once it comes out where will those be? i want to see how involved it is. thanks!

Ähm... the Flash isn't for Apps, it's the SPI-Flash for storing the drive-code and every 9-Wire modchip has it...

Under Resources on their site?

@All that have problems with their wiikey.
Use their contact form and tell them what your problem is and maybe tell them that you'll tell these problems to anyone who's considering buying a Wiikey2. Now that they rely once again on that name, you have a pretty strong position...

"Wiikey version 2" ?!?

How about giving us update version 2 for Wiikey first.
lecture.gif

The bug list of update 1.9s/x is still long:

- the soundfix is not working (on pal gc backups on pal wii)

- the 6x speed is not working (on backups on pal & ntsc wiis )

- it is not possible to dissable "full gc region free" (on Pal wiis)

- "full gc region free" not working (on ntsc wiis)

- the integrated "Wii update blocker" not working for some games (pal & ntsc wiis)

@ OZModchips

How about showing your support for the community in making them aware of the need to restore their good name first in fixing the bugs !?!

The coder who did the first wiikey firmware version ran off, but the guy who did the last (buggy) version is still part of the team...so...hope ?

AudioFix works great on 19.s
You have to turn "ON" the Audiofix AND DevMod options.
Turn OFF all the RegionOverride options (For Wii & NGC). (I use StarFall 0.5 to patch my system Menu with region free. It works like this)
So, the ONLY options that must be turned ON are: AudioFix & DevMod.

Naruto 4 & Bloody Roar Primal Fury works great with sound. =) All my PAL games work great on my PAL Wii with sound

Don't know if DVDR speed works at 6x...

Actually it was in the list of Wiikey 2 features:

QUOTE
8Mbit onboard flash for storing data and applications

Sure it could be embellishing the description to make it seem like something it is not and just be normal functionality like every other flash chip. But taken literally it could mean things like an unbricking program could be launched from the flash (assuming there was an IOS installed already that could boot to the flash app or a custom boot disc was used). Guess we will have to wait and see exactly what it means.

Well you could store code in the Flash and inject it through the chip. But to run in Wiimode it would have to be signed and you are reeeeeeally limited with only 512kb to work with.
And if you have to install something first to make it work it's pretty useless, as you could just install the code that you would store in the chip. So no there will never be an application stored in this flash-memory.
Btw. a drivechip can first work once you open the disc-channel and run a game. Before that the code won't run. What you want (bypassing the system menu, patching it, etc,) will be possible through bootmii, sonner or later.

Good to know, but having to turn off options I use to get to another option I use is still broken.

I know I'm starting to sound like a troll, but I have to say this a second time: Don't buy this. I will bet money you will regret it. The Wiikey team is terrible. Not to mention the fact that there's a full array of other chips to pick from.

Hey OZ,

I'd like to order from you, I just had a question. Over at foundmy.com, they're selling the wiikey2 bundled with the v4c chip. Do you know anything about that clip being compatible and if so will you offer it as a presoldered bundle?

Thanks.

Hello
Any wiiclip that uses the same 9 points will work...
but the wiikey v2 is a lot smaller then the d2pro
so the chip is not going to be secure in the clip
it will be a hack job with a bunch of wires hanging around --- which is why are are not selling it until they rls the wiiclip for the actual modchip

I agree

So my Wii is a first-gen Wii.
Will this work with it or should I just go with trying to get another Wiikey and Wiiclip?

Either one will work with your Wii. I would go for the Wiikey 2 if you could stand to wait long enough for a Wiiclip to be made for it (or can handle soldering to the board). People have mentioned that it doesn't have the best support for some things (streaming audio being one) despite what Wiikey claims. So if you can't wait until there is a Wiiclip you might want to go with a different chip entirely -- Wasabi, D2Pro9 v2/3.

So wait, I can use D2Pro on my 1st gen Wii?

Yes you can.

Go with a Free-clip flashed with YAOSM. It's the best chip for the first gen Wiis and muuuuuuuuch cheaper than the new ones...

Here is what Miles is referring to. I'm not sure if it is available on other sites (a quick check on ModchipCentral, OzModchips, Bamboogaming turned up nothing). Or you could also get the bare chip and do a wire install which is very easy to install on older drives compared to those with D2C/D2C2/D2E chips. Note that it is DVD upgradeable (there hasn't been the need for an update in a long time though). Or you could go a 'po' man's' route and build a simple JDM programmer which costs next to nothing (or nothing if you can salvage all the parts from a spare board, etc) and then order a *cough* sample chip (PIC12F683-I/P) *cough*... The last option isn't as easy as the first two of course but working with PICs is pretty fun if you have the means and knowhow to solder.

where can I buy a free-clip flash with YAOSM? I never heard of it. Does it run all games? Can it be upgradeable by DVD?
