The main points here:

A company failed to fully deliver
A company failed to support their customers

Don't be greedy.
Development for these projects take time.

The "AADD syndrome" I like to call it.

That's it folks! Don't get your underwear in a bunch, whether it be panties or briefs.
The best way to do something now is just email your concerns on the update to the Wiikey team so they know they need to act.

COMPLETLY INCOHEHRENT DRIVEL ABOUT FIRMWARE UPDATES AND HOW THEY ARE MADE
Please, stay away from serious discussion, this is grown up talk here. Updates are not 'made by typing at a command prompt like in windowsXP ', the update will be disc based, as previously stated or lash (FLASHED AS IN THE CODE BURNED TO THE CHIP), 'experts' such as you will have no problems update

The updates are coming.
Sorry to interrupt your rant, but the way I read it, he meant the stuff that was released by the Wiikey team so far (the setup disks) required you to do command prompt stuff to generate the ISO files. He meant that it should be replaced by a GUI interface. There was no talk about actually executing any updates through command prompt... you just added that.

This doesn't mean you didn't have a valid point, though. Writing the code from bottom up is, well, nonsense, and I doubt that the memory size of the chip or interface are a problem. They probably picked a chip with plenty of space, and an interface is quite unnecessary. Besides, even if they did make a nice interface, it'd hold up development for no more than a day or so, so it can't be the reason for the delay.

Oh, and I wouldn't file a topic for whining about a late update under "grown up talk"...

This makes absolutely no sense and your theory is retarded.

Thank you. That is in fact what i meant. And sorry about flaming you about your 4 posts, i was a little closeminded and didn't consider that. But please, don't flame through misinterpreted information

And I admit that I forgot about opensource projects such as openwii (right?) that also use atmel8 chips are available to the wiikey developers, but then i would doubt they'd use that because they would be taking someone else's stuff and selling it under their name saying its theirs.

And if you're going to complain its taking too long, I see it as you having 3 options: 1) Be patient 2) Flash the chip with code from an opensource chip 3) Unsolder your chip and get a new one. Take any you want.

ok, first ever post here, usually just a silent surfer through forums, but this thread got to me a bit

i got a wiikey a few months ago because it was a nice cheap chip that got good reviews, also looked easy to install, chuckles. The gamecube support was a nice extra, but it was not what i based my buy on, I'm a bit disapointed some cube games dont work but thats just the greedy side of me i think

, Im so used to this from similar companies since my first gba cart, i still dont get why people are surprised that some dodgy little chip has issues and the dodgy little company you bought it from has poor customer support, ok they said it was easily updated and made a few silly promises, but thats marketing, my first gba cart also promised me i was going to be able to play snes games on it... mcdonalds claims some of theyr meals are healthy, microsoft claim vista is the best operating system ever

, get used to it people, is the world we live in. at the end of the day i bought a chip so i could play wii games, and wiikey works great for that, even the occasional import games iv tried. if your going to lower the score for the origional review just take out whatever points may have been added origionally for it being updateable, though even then i think its a bit early to do that even, have bought things like this from a few companies in china / hong kong and is always the same, they promise next week but doesnt come for 6 months

, dont worry about it. Whole thing has gotten blown out of proportion on these forums, which is a shame, is still a good chip.. if people ask me which chip to get for wii, i list all the good sides and down points to the wiikey and let them surf around forums and reviews for the other chips, make up theyr own mind, usually still just go with wiikey.. better the devil you know i guess
wink.gif
, anyway, just my 2cents

lighten up folks

As for now the Wiikey functions better then any current Wii mod chip on the market. In that regard I can't complain.

However, being unable to meet self imposed deadlines and not keeping customers informed of current progress and future development will ultimately push those same customers to another supplier.

The wiikey team can take all the time they want with their update. They need to understand though, that with the much hyped xecuter mod chip just around the corner, not many people will be there waiting for them.
