Ritek G05
Taiyo Yuden
OPTODISCO

Memorex (not too great but was readable by wii)

Now I've tried it with Verbatim DVD-Rs on 2 different DVD burners.

Now I think the only possible problems now are that the chip is DOA, chip is a fake, or I am burning it wrong.

I am burning it by opening Nero, choosing Recorder > Burn Image > and then choosing the iso.

Nothing is working.

What the hell do I do now?

pictures, lets see if infact it is a clone or well we wont know if its DoA just from a pic but yeah anyway pics would help.

only possible other thing would be are the iso's your burning the proper size and unscrambled? but if the setup disc doesn't even work i don't think that'd even be an issue..

i'd say probly clone, or wires mixed up or something, get some good pics of it i'd hate for you to declare it DOA when infact it was something stupid like a wire mixed up (not knockin you, just sayin its a possibility)

Are the pictures I already posted not good enough?

Edit: Comparing my pictures to the fake, it looks to me like I have a genuine WiiKey. I swear none of these wires got mixed up, you can see in the pictures themselves. I know it looks like that connection on the left is going all the way to point 1 but it's not, I cut that wire. I know for a fact it was installed correctly.

Well I've eliminated the following:

Bad media - I've tried 5 different brands including verbatim dvd-rs. High speeds, low speeds. Nothing.

Bad burner - I've tried on 2 different burners.

Fake WiiKey - you can see by the pictures that it's the legit one.

Bad install - No I didn't "start with a blob of solder and drag it from point to point." I posted the method I used and it consists of soldering the wire to one point, gently bending it to the next point, soldering it down, and snipping it.

So I now believe that I have a DOA WiiKey. I guess what I'll do now is take the Wii apart again and check my connections for the billionth time, desolder, resolder using the true wire method, and if it still doesn't work getting a new WiiKey from foundmy.com would be justifiable (hopefully a free replacement).

If anyone else has any good ideas (or crazy ones) please let me know

Well, if you end up replacing it with another wiikey, good luck. In the mean time, look into wiifree, because it might take a while to get your DOA chip exchanged.

Hey I just wanted to update the thread that I got my chip working and everything is running perfectly fine now.

For anyone who is thinking of trying or has tried and is having problems with this guide, do not do it and/or do a true wire installation. That method may take less time but there is a higher possibility for error, especially error that will go unseen as was my case.

So I desoldered everything and went through with a wire install with 30 AWG wire and everything went fine (aside from it taking more time).

Thank you everyone for all your help and putting up with my stubbornness that it wasn't the installation that was the problem when it turned out it was.
