Gaming Wii2HDMI ... worth buying?

Maybe I need one, because using component cables looks blurry when I put the Wii in 480p mode. When I set it to 480i everything looks nice, crisp, sharp, and clear.

Yes that is correct. It will upscale ( enlarge your picture to fill your lcd screen ) instead of your tv.
It will NOT provide a higher resolution and it will still be the max Wii res 720 x 480p, but your tv will recoqnise a 1080 signal because of the pre enlarging ( upscaling ). This will not make your picture any better in comparison to component connection.

Upscaling is a fancy word for something like a magnifying glass.
All lcd screen do upscaling unless a native signal is fed to the screen.
Upscaling is purely a method to get a lower (than native) resolution, fill your screen.
If it would not scale, a 480p signal would be a small 720x480 square in the middle of a 1080p capable screen, so the tv stretches it to 1920x1080 fit the screen. This is what upscaling is.
some tv's scale better than others depending on the picture processing in your tv.
This can in some cases lead to some input lag. An external scaler sometimes can eliminate this lag, as the tv does not have to scale the signal anymore, because the scaler does it beforehand of the tv input.

If I recall correctly, the HDMIKey was a SCAM. They never updated the firmware of that thing, and the picture quality is subpar compared to most built-in LCD's upscallers. Here you have an entire discussion with people complaining about it (it's in spanish).

If you have a semi-decent LCD tv, the original Neoya Wii2HDMI is all you need. It does plain and clean 480p (nothing more, nothing else).
I have one (because the progressive input of my LCD doesn't work), and works just fine.

I never said you will get better graphics or bigger resloution from the Wii, the only thing I said is that "it upscales to 1080p" which basically means it only enlarges the resolution by using some algorithm. If you expect that some stuff like this makes your Wii suddenly output FullHD graphics then you should think again.

can this thing be connected to an imac via miniport adapter? i'd be interested in that.

other than that, i'd say getting rid of the prehistoric component cables would be worth it. specially if you transport your wii to other people's houses like i do.

edit: never mind. it seems like i would need an hdmi to minidisplay port converter which costs way to much.

it connects to an Out port. it doesn't modify the wii in any way.

It just takes what the Wii outputs, it has no access to its innard and no other source of electricity than the Wii itself, so it can't do anything.
