The HDD is in FAT32 format, I used Wii Backup Manager to add some games to test. I also dont know if the HDD is supposed to have anything else besides the games

The HDD is connected to the usb port that is closer to the edge of the Wii

This exact HDD has worked and loaded games in the past

Good morning,

update your syscheck report, (some CIOS, IOS are not up to date) using Modmii ==>
https://gbatemp.net/threads/best-wa...i-for-windows-official-support-thread.207126/

drag and drop your syscheck report into Modmii, it will tell you what should be installed

at the same time, install Priiloader for more security ==>

https://wii.guide/priiloader.html
That was a quick response. Yeah, definitely install Priiloader for additional brick protection. If your console supports BootMii on boot2, then do that too.

I just updated 16 of them and it still doesnt work, I checked sysreport with Modmii after updating all ios/cios and they are now 100% updated so I dont know what's causing the issue

  • What USB port do you use, since only one of the 2 on the wii work?
  • What HDD do you use, since SSD is known not working as is pendrive, you really need a hard disk drive.
  • Do you use an external powered HDD? (for the wii has a low power usb port)
  • Are you using fat32 or WBFS filesystem on the HDD? (for NTFS and a lot of other filesystems are problematic)
  • Do you boot you application from an SD-card? (for sometimes using a all-in-one drive will make it hard to diagnose.
  • Have you tried to remove USB-loader and freshly install the latest version?
  • Have you installed nintendont? (it's the best practice for triforce and gamecube games).
  • (C)ios250 is the most important one, it should be D2x v10 or higher.
  • How did you install the Ciosses? for only installing them using ios36 should set the priveledges correct (or use https://gbatemp.net/download/ios236-installer.32100/ to install ios236 and use that one to do all your system and wad installations.

Looks great! these (C)IOS, BC, MIOS and system menu are fine.
one thing is neogamma and uloader was pre system menu 4.0 and so was the support dropped.
Since neogamma and uloader we're used i can tell you've got an early model wii with backup loading option from the discdrive (that was what only worked with neogamma).
Used to work is great, but adding a game can corrupt the drive, most probably you're using WBFS filesystem.
this is cool but got limits for:
  • When it'has low free space, there are random read failures and noone ever found a solution except converting it to fat32.
  • When there is one corrupt game on the HDD it does corrupt the whole reading of the filesystem.
So please remove added games since last working day.

I already formatted the disk to set the format to FAT32

At this point is it a good idea to completely reset my wii and then homebrew it myself?

Configurable usb loader is my favorite. I’ve been using it for over ten years.

Wiiflow looks nice, but it didn’t work as well for me. I forget what the issue was, but I tried once, then a few years later. I think it wouldn’t read my sd card, or the wbps format. Finally gave up and continued on with Configurable USBLoader.

It is reliable, but not very pretty.

I tried everything, all 3 loaders, formatted to fat32 with guiformat (allocation unit size 65k), using mbr, only 1 partition

test another USB medium (USB key or another external hard drive) ,to realize the fait accompli

FAT32 external hard drive with a 32 kB cluster.

Hmm, that sounds wierd fat32 should work fine, if the games are in the correct folder (no mixing gamecube and wii roms)... Wierd for your drive used to work great with the wii, all ciosses are correct.
If the CIOSes are up to date (only above 200 need patching).
Below 200 should just be latest edition IOS.
IOS58 needs to be latest original version.
CIOSses need being installed using an IOS with: Bug Trucha, Acceso NAND (first one for fake signature, and second one for writing to the nand location).

Everything seems to identify working correct.

Since each wii has unique unwritable blocks formatting a wii and reinstalling it from scratch might turn it in to a paperweight.

If all above is checked correct (and it seems to be):
It's a long shot, but it could mean a leaking cap inside the wii or your hdd.

Since nobody mentioned it,

External hard drives that aren't externally powered most often require a Y-Cable which you plug into both ports on the Wii.

Mine can sometimes work but then not, and it's because the Wii doesn't provide enough electricity to power an external hard drive if it's not externally powered. Would explain why it once worked.

USB3 = 5400 rpm. USB2 = 7400 RPM (in general)
Pending on the hdd specs, using through wii's usb (USB2) may cause problems.
