Hardware Wii will not boot with mic.

I have a Afterglow headset and a MW3 mic. When i have either one of them plugged in to Port1 (usb port on the left side when looking at the back of the Wii.) It will not boot when powered on, and i just get a blank black screen. I have a external hdd plugged in to the Port0 which works flawless. I guessing this would be an issue with my IOS's. Can anyone confirm this? I can send a copy of my syscheck if needed.
