HI,
sorry a noob here..
Was wondering if Wii can play download game why is there a need to mod??
I know it to allow the console to read the game..... BUT does downloaded game have code that seperate original frm Wii channel or other places??

Modding isn't REALLY necesarry, i mean, most games can now be played at full speed.
However, if you want 100% compatibility, the closest you'll get is a modchip.
And i guess Gamecube support could also be a reason to get a modchip, though that'll be supported sooner or later anyway.

I believe he was asking why a hardmod / softmod is needed for the Wii to read burned games.

The reason is that official Wii discs are pressed in a factory and not burned. The Wii can tell whether or not the disc is official. If its not official, it refuses to play.
