I've got an extra Wii and I have a bit of a crazy Idea for it. The OMGWTF motherboard trim has looked cool to me for years and I finally think I have an application for it. I think a Wii motherboard can theoretically be installed in a hollowed out VHS tape. I'd like to use this form to lay out my ideas and concerns. So first order of business is the basic dimensions.

It looks like it fits, the red line is measured 101mm from the right side of the VHS and the width will have plenty of clearance. This means I actually have about a third of the tape for cable management. The next thing that concerns me is the thermals, I feel like I need a fan. Other then that the only thing I'm curious about is the custom PCBs I've seen other people using. Are those a get em printed yourself deal? I've seen gerber files floating around but no boards.

OMG I have been looking for a special case for my Wii for a long time. I would totally buy one. Please post updates if you start working on it :D

Right now I think I may be in over my head. I've taken apart a broken Wii to see what I'm working with, idk if I can pull the U10 relocation off. I've got a proper Hakko iron and solder wick but, I've never successfully soldered surfaced mounted parts. If this doesn't work out it might look cool to have the trimmed board framed.

Well it's an hour later and I've successfully broken legs off of the U10 U9 and U5 chips. But this one came off I think I'm getting closer.

Well, still easier then TIG. I think at least 80% of the remaining legs on these poor poor U10 chips are connected properly. At this point we're coronaciling my decent into madness trying to do a OMGWTF trim for no bloody reason whatsoever. If something comes out working on the other side of this it'll probably end up not being in a VHS tape.

i was thinking of something like this. but mine is more simple just get a clear case from ebay.
Many moons ago I did a clear case swap with temperature display and colour change. Worth the effort and looks pretty cool
