Hacking Wii Update: 3.3U Out

I wouldnt update unless it's reversible; nobody so far assured us that it could be (after some work by our gurus) downgraded to earlier versions. So Im keeping my 3.2

Well.. last night Marcan said on IRC that they are working on a new version of the homebrew channel which should work on the new firmware.

What cios did you install...what's the newest?

There are people that say:
- install a cIOS...(which one?)
- install the cIOS_FIX (whatever that may be)
- install Starfall (can't get my head round that one either)
- do nothing and wait

What's the best option?

Starfall doesn't work anymore

But Wad installing still works with wad manager 1.2
But if you don't have Custom IOS36 rev 05 installed wad installing won't work
Just Wait With updating is the best option.

Even though you "downgraded", the IOS versions would still remain patched. As far as I know, the Custom IOS is currently the only thing that allows any of that on this firmware. I'm guessing that if you removed the Custom IOS, your "3.2" Wii would have the exact same issues.

What's the best option?

The best option is to wait and see what happens in the next few days/weeks. The update will probably get hacked. If you install the update now, you may not be able to use a fix if (when) it gets released.

Edit: Though I personally have faith in the homebrew community that the new 3.3 will be hacked.

I'm updating at the moment... stay tuned.

Running 3.2U with The Homebrew Channel installed. No custom IOS of any sort, no DVDx.

That's stupid.

if it isn't broke. don't fix it.

my wii has the hbc, dvdx cios, backup luancher wad installer blah blah blah.
it's not hooked up to wifi and its not going to be,. my wii does what i want it to do. so what the point of updating?

The point is that not every body use copy game, have only originals and always buy the games that i want...
My only problem is if the HC and gecko works because i have some usa games (originals)...

There is none. My wii is hooked up to wifi (still at 3.2E) and as long as I can play my games online I'm not updating. I don't need the shop channel I have gbatemp to inform me about wiiware and vc.

Isn't it possible to make a wad from the new shop channel and install that instead of updating? People who have updated could easily make a nand backup and make a wad from it so others don't need to update...

The people who would do that sort of thing are the same people who are smart enough to not update in the first place.

also it might not be that simple, new shop channel might check your version or check the new patched IOSes or something.

Didn't the first version of 3.3 already block installing new fakesigned channels? Except for HBC, since that used a different method.

I don't see the difference.

it only blocked fike signed discs not fake signed channels or anything else...
