should still workI was wondering if I plugged one end of the Y cable for my external hard drive into an outlet and the other into the Wii U would I manage to save a port? Or do you need both plugged into the Wii U for it to work?
Unfortunately, with the amount of storage I require, I would need one of these. (Pic Below)I just saved myself the headache and bought a 128GB USB 3.0 "nano-sized" USB stick. Doesn't stick out, and plays all games just fine.
Unless you plan on archiving the entire Wii U library, there's only about 250GB worth of GOOD games on the Wii U.Unfortunately, with the amount of storage I require, I would need one of these. (Pic Below)
Yep but a usb stick will break a lot sooner than a hdd due to the fact the wiiu is constantly reading and writing to it. A usb stick is designed to be read from constantly not written to where as a hdd is desingned to be constantly read from and written to. Thats why when Breath of the wild came out nintendo gave out a statement saying only use nand or hdd and never to use a usb stick. Using one on wiiu you are just drastically reducing the usb sticks lifespan.I just saved myself the headache and bought a 128GB USB 3.0 "nano-sized" USB stick. I plugged my Y cable in back of Wii UI was wondering if I plugged one end of the Y cable for my external hard drive into an outlet and the other into the Wii U would I manage to save a port? Or do you need both plugged into the Wii U for it to work?
Those tiny usb drives tend to get pretty hot. I'd be surprised if you didn't get some kind of slow down after playing for a while. The games only need installed once, they can be read from nearly unlimited times. And if you buy a short nano drive like I did, it won't snap off.
It really depends, my SanDisk gets hot, but my Samsung only gets hot in a 3.0 drive, at 2.0 it stays pretty normal. Those tiny usb drives tend to get pretty hot. I'd be surprised if you didn't get some kind of slow down after playing for a while.
I'm going to have to try this out. I'd much rather use one of these for my WiiU.It really depends, my SanDisk gets hot, but my Samsung only gets hot in a 3.0 drive, at 2.0 it stays pretty normal.

it does work perfectly with my two 2.5 USB 3.0 HDD's. Output of the wall outlet is 5V, 2100 mA .I know it's late but did plugging one y cable to wall outlet work?
