Instead of rewritting all of the vWii stuff, they could really just make an interpreter that catches the button presses and maps them to a virtual wiimote/controller. They obviously already do some background processing of vwii of to se nd the picture to the gamepad and block the buttons.

i only done the 4.0.0 update because it added the wii u gamepad to be used in vwii mode. this new update is obviously more for security purposes so i wont be doing it.

Since launch, there's been what, 2 actual updates that were good? The spring and the launch update. And yet the WiiU is already at v.4.0...

Well you have had 3 major updates.

1. The launch update...which basically made the damned system useable as was FW 2.x

2. The spring (almost summer) update which did greatly improve the performance booting, exiting apps and games that was 3.x

3. The fall update.....which added some nice features including the Wii OFFTV mode as well some updates to MiiVerse, one feature some people really wanted was the ability to output audio via the av cables while using HDMI for video...that was 4.x

All in all the WiiU is a much smoother/faster UI than what it launched with a year ago. I think the last update 4.x did actually bring some additional speed improvements as I have noticed now that exiting games/apps/miiverse is pretty snappy like taking just seconds to get you back to the dashboard.....

What is there to fix? Im still on 4.0 and I have been watching let's plays via youtube on my wiiu for months....

^This, ever since 4.0.0, YouTube has run perfectly :P I see no reason to update to 4.0.2, I can access the internet just fine without having to update.

I was highly disappointed since you still need a wiimote. I don't see why the buttons on gamepad couldn't be used like a classic controller. Now that would be awesome.
Buttons won't work because the Wii U gamepad communicates with the Wii U via WiFi only. vWii controls are handled via bluetooth. There is no bluetooth chip on the gamepad, hence why it's impossible to make the controls work. If only Nintendo would have built a bluetooth chip inside the gamepad..

some people , myself included cannot view youtube vids unless you switch out your user agent in the settings , which does work , but has to be done on each visit to you tube... i dont know why they dont play ,,, they used too...

And yet it still knows when you press a button because it tells you the buttons won't work after you press them. If it was running as a pure wii, pressing the buttons shouldn't be able to trigger a response.

Still doesn't make it easy to program or map those buttons. He's right, Wii mode uses Bluetooth, Wii U mode uses WiFi.

The reason for the message is because it communicates with the Wii U mode part during vWii mode, via WiFi. You know, the part that outputs the video to the gamepad. Wii games, the Wii System menu and Wii channels don't know how to talk with the gamepad. They are programmed to use bluetooth, not WiFi.

I don't understand why people keep making up excuses for Nintendo on this.

I'm sure it's not the easiest thing to program, but I'm sure it can be done. They have a whole team of professional, highly talented developers that work on this. Sure, it might be complicated, but they have FULL control over their hardware and development environment, things I'm sure nobody outside can dream of having access to. Nobody knows the capabilities/possibilities of the vWii system when interacting with the WiiU environment.

I'm sure if they wanted to, they could make this happen. The GamePad Wii functionality without emulating the controls itself as a Wii Classic Controller Pro is near useless, it's too small of a screen to set in front of you and play on 90% of the time if you're using a separate controller.

If VMWare can get components on a PC to interact with a virtual machine, why can't the WiiU have a wrapper that translates GamePad inputs to CCP commands in Wii mode? Come on..virtualization technology is advanced enough for Nintendo to make this happen.

Well, I never said it was easy. But it could be done by Nintendo if they wanted to without overhauling the whole system. That's all I've been trying to say. It's certainly not "Impossible".

I love off screen play for wii u games that don't use the pad much, especially Mario. I lay back and have a good time. To do off screen Wii, you have to prop up the screen and then use a controller bigger then it is. It's just incredibly akward.

Edit:.Ninja'd by victor, who said it way better then I did:)

I'm with you. Virtualization technology is advanced/well documented enough that Nintendo should figure out a way to do this.
