Hi all,

I modded my Wii U using the method whereby a DS game is legitimately paid for and I installed CBHC. It all worked fine and I've installed and played games on it no problem for months. All was well.

Someone borrowed my Wii U and now it doesn't load up!! It doesn't show the boot menu and just alternates between a black screen and the Wii U Menu loading screen. I have a feeling my Nintendo account was deleted (the one I used to buy the DS game for the exploit).

I don't want to believe it's bricked :( Is there anyway I can restore and fix it?

I've embedded a video of the issue.

Thanks :)

This can only happen with CBHC when:

- The DS game was deleted or moved to an external HDD.
- The account that bought the game was deleted, or you change its ID manually.

You can only unbrick it using hardmod method. I don't think it is worth it, because it involves lots of stuff...
you better buy another console (pretty cheap without gamepad) and NEVER install CBHC again.
Standard Haxchi works perfect. You only need to touch it when you want to play games with DLC! It's not even required for most of games!
And you never feel afraid of bricking...

Oh bugger :( So there's nothing I can do to recover it (other than a hard mod solution)?

I was able to get in to the Homebrew app once. If I somehow manage it again is there anything I can do within here?

Thanks again

Are you saying it booted once to the Homebrew Launcher??
Hmm..
Can you boot without SD card? Or try another SD card?
You have to copy all files to a new card of course -> don't forget to format in FAT32 first)

Yeah, I managed to get into the Homebrew Launcher once although I'm not sure how!

I have 2 SD card's both with the required files (I used one as a backup and one to transfer/install games).

I'll try and load Homebrew again. If I can get it to load what can I do to get it working again?

Thanks for your help :)

Can you try one of these two button sequences (hold them at the same time): https://github.com/FIX94/haxchi/blob/master/dsrom/cbhc_menu/main.c#L23-L24

If you can get to HBL, or verify cbhc is still working, I'm not sure I'd go and try to remove it immediately– it's possible that your system menu has some type of brick, and if that's the case then cbhc would actually be a good defense against it.

If it boots to Homebrew Launcher, there is a chance that CBHC it is configured to boot to HBL automatically and it cannot read the SD card for some reason.
This means it is not fully bricked.

You can also try press (Home) while booting to access the CBHC boot options menu (if it's not bricked)

Thanks guys. I'll give it a go this evening and let you know what happens :)

Would be a shame if it's not fixable. The Wii U is such a great little system :)

It is the best Nintendo console ever, for me!
I have my entire library on it :D NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii! SEGAs... etc!
And look... haxchi is sooo beautiful with my custom setup:

who needs cbhc anyway?? this is much more beautiful than a red scary exclamation!

Hey guys,

I can get to the homebrew launcher by holder A,B,X & Y during load. I've attached the images of what I see within homebrew launcher

What do I need to do now to get it back up and running?

Cheers :)

Just uninstal cbhc as I said. no need to remove the DS game. you will need it for normal haxchi.

Do I follow this guide to uninstall: https://wiiu.hacks.guide/uninstall-cfw.html

Will uninstalling it have any negative implications?

Thanks
Just these steps:
  1. Launch the Homebrew Launcher Channel
  2. Launch the CBHC installer
  3. Select the DS virtual console game you are uninstalling CBHC from, then press (A) to select it
  4. Read the warning that appears, then press (B) to uninstall
  5. When it is complete, you will be returned to the system menu
  6. Reboot your Wii U
Doing this should cause your Switch Wi U to boot normally.

Your Switch?? :rofl2:

haha I'm not gonna attempt to exploit my Switch for a very long time!

Ok, I've done that (selected the DS game then clicked B on the next screen) and I'm back at the Wii U Menu. Hooray. Thank you both so much

So, if I wanna play any of the games I've installed on my HDD (which is currently unplugged) what do I need to do?

Thanks :)

It does look like the Nintendo Account I used to buy/install the DS game has been removed. Is this going to cause any issues?

Awesome! Another saved WiiU!

What happens when you click on the DS game icon?
Does it launch anything? or give an error?
What icon does it have right now?

Maybe you will need to reinstall the game / install normal haxchi.
do not install cbhc again!

I thought it was totally bricked for a while. Thanks for saving it :)

It looks like the icon has changed to Haxchi and clicking this loads a screen with the Haxchi logo and then back to the Wii U Menu
