Nice to know but the problem is that as soon as I connect my Wii U to the internet it will update the firmware automatically, it always does. The 3DS always asks you before even downloading the update so you're always safe on 3DS. Even Xbox One and PS4 ask you, Wii U is the only one that downloads and applies the update even when you have Automatic Downloads turned off. It only needs to get online.

EDIT: Is there any DNS that currently blocks updates on Wii U and 3DS?
Yes. DNS only for Wii U.

  • Set the DNS server IPs to the following servers
  • 168.235.092.108
  • 081.004.127.020

But the console still knows that there is a new update, right? DNS only make the update fail. Eshop, Miiverse and games will still tell me to update the system like on 3DS at the moment. I wonder if there is an easy way to use online services without having the console asking for the latest update.

So hypothetical question: Since it appears they patched out browserhax, that means they're likely trying to target homebrew on the Wii U.

Are we thinking there might be a Wii U ban wave similar to the recent 3DS version?

So if I have haxchi autoboot and someone updated me to 5.5.2. What do I do?

I found someone had created a connection with an auto dns server and this is how it was updated.

But even though it says 5.5.2 when I launch a game like minecraft it says it wants to do another update.

Is this just for the game?

Yes and yes, you are fine and the game is trying to update itself.

I already asked the first question.

i have a problem with haxchi. The first time i launch works but the second time the console freezes.
If you're using Haxchi to launch HBL, this is normal.
Haxchi is used to install HBL into your console's RAM. To launch it afterwards, you simply launch Mii Maker instead.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
