Ah well, good to know, and hey, progress is progress, however little or big it might be, I just hope that we see more file extraction like soundtracks or models or what have ya from Wii U games. It's been done before, apparently Crediar somehow extracted data without the key, how he did that is anyone's guess. :P

I think he mentioned how in some thread sometime, but I don't remember. We'll definitely see that more, discussion about potential mods is already underway. Be advised there will almost definitely NOT be a Project U for Smash.

Okay so starting today they are releasing wii games as shop title on wii u. as far as i can tell its running as if its wii mode but like a custom wrapper thats that game only. So if its just a variant of the wii mode, then they did something special to get gamepad controller to work like a classic controller pro. We need to try and see if we can figure out whats going on.

What the hell? They got the game pad to work in vWii mode as an actual controller? Dayum, watching the Direct now.

N-no, I believe they made Wii game available on eshop, you download them and play them in Wii U mode, I believe. Reason being they'd have to code/release a new IOS for the vWii part of the system to handle gamepad mapping, as someone said wayyyyyyyy back when we hacked vWii.

Yeah its in wii u mode, but the launch of the game and in game it acts like the vwii mode, but its separate from the vWii mode. It could be they just compiled the game to wii u mode and made the same sort of options like vwii for it, but idk.

I was gonna say, still, interesting that it doesn't use vWii mode, but it's definitely not emulation, just a fancy virtual machine methinks. Damn, I was hoping that it was vWii mode :P

Exactly i think its still wrapped, not native. unfortunately we can't test the gamepad controls as none of the three current games being released have classic controller support I think. Convenient lol.

Nope nope, no vWii mode. HOWEVER, don't quote me, but I THINK the Wii eshop games use the vWii hardware, but not the software. Just a theory, cannot confirm, needs more cowbell.

Off topic but you are just plain wrong about timeline with dreamcast. Bootrom was dumped almost on day 1 and a modchip was released basically weeks later.

modchip is way different from being able to burn a bootable CD unmodified. Modchips are out for just about every system and honestly I don't think they make an even 1% impact on console game sales on 360/PS3, do they? Yaknow, I'd like for once someone to bring Steam into the discussion about how piracy kills entire platforms.

According to http://www.twitch.tv/soulhuntah - This guy... I asked what happened when you hit the home button while playing Super Mario Galaxy 2, and it opens just like the Wii menu, but boots back to Wii U menu.

You mean that it is exactly like it is on wii, but the wii return to home menu button kicks you out to the wii u menu? If that is, then I would bet this is definitely some sort of vWii mode hacked up or slimmed down.

I would imagine the new wii shop titles use the vwii environment in some manner with a wrapper running for the game pad. no big deal.
