Wii U control support for wii64?

I installed wii64 and the wii u forwarder for it using gameincanada's tutorial. I used it, and it ran pretty poorly, but it had wii u gamepad support. I then looked did some more research, and found out that was an old version, so I downloaded the new version. Lo and behold, it ran games much better and the wii u forwarder still worked for it, but the gamepad no longer worked for it. The github page states that it is supported, but I must be missing out on something. How do I get it working properly?

When you downloaded the new version did you simply replace the corresponding boot.dol for it? That should do the trick
