Hacking Wii suddenly not playing discs

This morning my Wii would not play Medal of Honor Heroes 2, the same game I had been playing 10 hours earlier.

When I turned on the console Medal of Honor showed in the Disc Channel but when I tried to launch the game it returned to the system menu without displaying an error message.

Thinking it could be a bad disc, I tried numerous other games, both original discs and burned backups. I now get either a black screen after choosing to start the game whereby the Wii becomes unresponsive or a message telling me that an error has occurred, the disc needs to be ejected and the system powered off.

I have a genuine Wiikey installed that I updated to 1.9s several months ago. aMy system firmware is 3.2U.

Last week I installed the DVDX playback hidden channel and Patchmii vis the Homebrew Channel (Beta 8). Yesterday I attempted to watch a DVD in MPlayer but the film froze after a few seconds of playback. I then went on to play Medal of Honor with no trouble.

My Wii has had difficulty reading scratched DVD backups in the past. Reburning the images onto unscratched dics has up to now worked flawlessly.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

i've got a wiikey and 3.2e and my wii only plays games in horizontal position, maybe you should try that.

You can try to uninstall the DVDX etc. and see if it works.
Else really the last resort try format the Wii.

Maybe laser died. Also you shouldn't watch dvd's. Atleast before people said that it kills the laser. Not sure if that's the case anymore.

Fired the Wii up today horizontally and everything worked fine. I decided to be bold and, after ejecting the disc, put it vertically; all games tested worked perfectly.

So, not really sure what the problem was/is but it is working now.

Difference in reading different discs can cause problems for lasers. DVD plays progressively non stop and wear the laser out so much quicker.. and considering the laser wasn't built with DVD in mind it causes more problems

1. The laser is always on
2. Many Games Stream audio. Brawl Streams video.
3. By the way, the Wii was designed with DVD playback in mind.

PS: I recognize the situation of having to burn new copies because of scratched DVD's. I had that problem with Boom Blox. IT played fine for weeks and suddenly my Wii decided to not read the disc anymore. And it was hardly scratched. Still I tried burning another copy and it worked fine after that. Strange!

For the last time people, lasers CANNOT be worn out. They are SOLID STATE components. What can happen is that dust can obscure the lens. But as far as the laser goes, it makes no difference what the laser is reading, DVD, CD, or any media. NO DIFFERENCE!!!!
