did manage to remove all the lenses and all the spindle motors. i have checked all the motors and all do work fine. my guess is that its probably the lasers. do you guys know where i can get the small white plastic connected to the laser? the one that runs thru the motor? some of my drives dont have it

What small white plastic? Doubt its essential.

Get some lasers in then I reckon

okay out of the 8 drives i have. 8 have working spindle motors. i was able to get 2 working lasers. now i have to test the boards. i still need the white plastic with spring that is connected to the laser. its the one that runs to the laser's motor. anyone know where to get that?

I know the one you mean. Good luck getting hold of one of those.

Try it without it, otherwise fook knows what you can do there

thanks. i actually found one. on ebay. 4 bucks. could be cheaper but only one guy was selling it. one more question regarding the drives. i know all my boards are D2 A,B,C drives and can play backups my question would be regarding SSBB dual layer game. i tested the lenses with GC WII and wii DL games. sometimes it loads SSBB other times it would not. but after loading it would be fine. would this be a sign of a bad laser or is it the board itself?

Nah, the game. Its one of the very picky games. There aren't many. And its because its dual layer.
Some wiis will boot it, some just won't. Sometimes its down to the media, sometimes no media will do.
Best you can do is get a decent dual layer like a verbatim, record it at like half speed and just hope for the best. When I used to mod em that was always one of my test games and it always worked perfect on my personal wii but would be luck of the draw on the console I was modding whether it would boot or not

thanks for everything. i pretty much did everything i could to bring back the drives. most had just bad lasers, some bent parts. did 5 out of 8. the 3 cannot be fixed because they are just physically damaged. what ive learned. most parts are swappable with the exception of 2 things. the upper metal plate and the inner metal plate the holds the disc in place. there are 3 versions of the inner plate. the shinny metal inner plate is bent a bit higher than the flat colored inner metal plate. the flat one is lower. the 3rd one is also shinny but slightly in between of both. now with the upper metal plate. (one with the flex cable and chip on top) there are 2 versions. i figured that the other one with an extra V shaped lock is higher than the other one. reason for that is for the inner metal plate that is shinny and higher. i learned that because when i placed the other outer plate it squeezes the disc. plus its like pushing the outer plate. i hope what i learned would help other people who are attempting to fix their drives
