Hacking Wii optical disc

What is the different between a wii optical disc and a DVD-R and how does the wii disc drive know which is in.
are WOD's just dual layer dvd's

most wii discs are single layer now although there are exceptions like brawl (i think thats the only dual layer at the mo actually)

i think it has something to do with the very inner pary of the disc next to the hole, its got some banner thing or something round it.

go to wikipedia and type 'wii optical disc'. it tells you a bit about it.

Identification of WOD is done by the internal file system of the disc, not by a physical trait.

so there is no way of getting this internal file onto a DVD-R to make the disc drive think its a wod

i didnt realise that a WOD had its own file system trait! well, ya learn something new everyday!

The main diif is that retail discs are pressed with some specific digits or codes that makes them legit for the hardware.
For the Wii it's a barcode which is pressed on the disc and which obviously we can't duplicate ^^:
