Hello,

I've recently started to get back into the Wii after 3 odd years of it collecting dust. I remember before I stopped using it I had Softmodded it using whatever technique it was that was used at the time (my system states my Wii is on 4.2E) and I had/have got Neo Gamma, USB Loader GX and the Homebrew channel on the system menu.

Ever since getting back into the Wii I've been booting games from a PSP with a 2 gig card in it (I really need a USB Stick) which has worked fine for games like Mario Party 9 and others. Recently I stuck Wii Fit Plus on there (NTSC version, I have a PAL launch Wii if that matters) and booted it from Neo Gamma like normal. This worked fine two or three times with no issues. I did the same yesterday and it came up with the 'An error has occured. Press the eject button and remove the disc blah blah' screen. Mario Kart was in the Wii, so I rebooted and took it out and tried to boot Wii Fit Plus again. It came up with the same screen, despite the fact that there is nothing in the drive.

Ever since this has happened, my Wii has completely lost its shit. It will boot to the System Menu. It will not play any disc game (all original, no scratches, brings up same error) but it also will not load any of the channels I have on the Wii Menu like games purchased from the Shop Channel, or the Mii Channel for example. Some just go to a black screen and require a reboot, some (like Alex Kidd) bring up the 'An error has occured, eject the disc' screen BUT THERE IS NO DISC IN THERE! The only things it wil bot on my system menu are the homebrew stuff: Neo Gamma, USB Loader and The Homebrew Channel. I'm confused and I'm no longer anywhere near up to date with my Wii softmodding/homebrew knowledge so all this talk of CIOS and IOS and everything I've completely forgot about. I can follow instructions however, and because I have no idea what I'm doing or how to fix this' I went through this Youtube video and did this

It hasn't fixed the issue, but I've got that nice recovery menu thing when you press power and start on a boot. Wii is still dead though. Googling the issue just brings up loads of people with broken Wii disc drives. I can't find a single person who has had the Wii bring up this error when clicking a VC game that doesn't need the disc drive anyway. I'm completely lost.

Can anyone provide me with any help on this? If there is any diagnostic tools I can run to provide you with a readme or anything then I can certainly provide you with that.

Many thanks in advance.

TL;DR - Wii is fucked, please help.

It's interesting that it happens in VC games as well. I had the same errors occur and I had to replace the disk drive - I even found where a chip on the drive had fried. If you think it's a software issue, you might try running DOP-Mii and installing all the latest IOS files that aren't stubs. https://code.google.com/p/dop-mii/downloads/list

If you installed Priiloader as well, some region free settings or disc settings can sometimes mess things up. (Especially if the cheat file used is wrong)

Many thanks for replying.

Apologies for my noobness here, what exactly am I doing when in Dop-Mii? I've stuck it on the SD card and it loads from the homebrew channel fine. I do apologise but I can't remember for the life of me what these IOS files actually do and what a stub is.

I am truly sorry.

DO NOT USE DOP MII!!! IT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE BRICKS!!!!

As you can load homebrew, you need a program called syscheck. Put that on ur sd card and run it, move the file it produces back to your pc and then use ModMii, give it the syscheck file and it will tell you what you need to replace and update your softmod.

Try all that and see if that fixes your problem

Do this but first paste the syscheck file here so we can take a look :)

Okay, I've been sat here messing with it and I clicked the option where you check through the IOS statuses and it comes up with 'Enabled, Enabled, Enabled, Disabled' and so on and about 20 seconds on its come up with this little gem.

That's not good. It's gone back to system menu fine but that was a bit worrying for a second. I'll stop using Dop Mii and use syscheck and then ModMii and see what happens, many thanks for your help so far.
I'll also paste the syscheck file here too.

That just means that DOPmii crashed, it shouldnt of done anything that will ruin your wii anymore. But yeah try the syscheck and modmii route and see how you get on.

Seems like you do not have full bootmii only bootmii ios. Use modmii and give it that file and do as it says, that will update all your IOS and cIOS to the very latest. Then see if your wii works :) Although im not sure about that bit where it says "Could not detect drive date" that could indicate a problem with your disc drive.

Many thanks for all your help so far, really appreciate it.

Which option is it on ModMii that asks for my Syscheck file? Can't seem to work it out.

It's still dead unfortunately. Discs make it bring up the error, no channels load except the homebrew channel and Neo Gamma. I had ModMii read the file from syscheck and it downloaded all the filed for the SD card. Followed the guide, installed the WAD files as told by the guide and used Hackmii to reinstall the homebrew channel and unfortunately the problem still exists.

Is there anything else I can try? I can post another syscheck now I've done as ModMii told me to do if that would help. I appreciate your help and patience with this.

I don't if this will help but seeing that you are in 4.2 you can try to update to 4.3 to clean all the system and re softmod with ModMii again

How would I go about doing that? Just updating through the Nintendo update thing in the Wii Menu or is there a different method?
