Hacking Wii Menu 4.2 Released

Has it been figured out how Nintendo was able to update boot2 without angering boot1?
I'd imagine that they could update boot2 on the earlier Wiis the same way that TT did with bootmii but what about the later ones without the bug? Did they have to do something special to make it work? Could something be learned from it?

Because future games will make use of the new IOSes? Ok, I know, you don't buy games, all your games run from IOS222 or 249 but some people (me included) actually buy some of their games and a retail game doesn't use IOS249. The Systemmenu update is really useless at the moment but a IOS can't harm I guess.

No, you just need to download the new Shop Channel with WiiSCU, and have IOS61 installed to access the Shop Channel; 4.2 is not required.

I thought that this was never the problem. Even if they can sign it without fake signing it (which I expect them to be able to do) it would still be different from what boot1 is expecting it to be.

Run cIOS installer from smashstack/indiana pwns, install it to 249 (Warezloaders restored...)
Change the ID of HBC's wad to something else, eq. HAXB
Run Wad Manager, install HBC wad with changed ID

The narrator annoyed me. Also disliked the emphasis on "FREE FREE FREE" (even though I do play Snes roms on it, I don't pirate Wii games.)

and hey. G4 is all about corporate; I'm sure the hosts aren't total tools off-camera (in b4 gbatemp manually imagines morgan webb crying about sysmenu 4.2) but when the camera's rolling they're being paid to throw effort into whatever's being aired on a teleprompter.
also notice the footage from AOTS shows hackmii/bootmii namely - they could have easily shown OTHER tools like USBLoaderGX, or something we actually USE

No, you just need to download the new Shop Channel with WiiSCU, and have IOS61 installed to access the Shop Channel; 4.2 is not required.

I had WiiSCU on HBC for ages heh, just use it once to repair my Wii. Will check it out, thanks

Not trying to get involved in this but I don't think that analogy is too perfect.
The chances of someone dressed as a fireman standing outside of a burning building definitely being a fireman are (at least I think) quite a bit greater than someone who posts here definitely being a pirate.
