Hardware Wii laser replacement

I've replaced my wii laser due to read errors. The wii now will play retail games just fine, but not my backups. I have an older wii so back ups work and everything is up to date. Shouldn't the laser read the discs since I didn't change the drive? Do you think I should try another laser, or maybe adjust it. Not sure what to do. I know I can use USB and I will, but I have many games already on disc that I don't want to switch over and movies that I watch on wiimc.

Anyone have success replacing lens and playing backup discs afterward?

nah. When my wii was having disc read issues I just took it outside and used my air compressor. works just fine now.
