I think any media should work. Check if your apps has the option and you can dump it or download it online.
Gecko OS doesn't seem to have an option that would do that kind of thing. I am at a loss
Edit: I also changed the language to Default, English, and Japanese to no avail. And, of course, set the Force NTSC option.

you could also look at using nintendont to boot the game, and select virtual memory card which which will save to a file on the sd card
This is it! Thank you, I can now play my Japanese GameCube games! I just used Nintendont to boot the game disc, and it worked! Well done.
