Cool. I'll download this and update what's happened. Will this cause any problems with homebrew, since some of my things (USB Loader GX, Homebrew channel, etc) require certain IOS to be patched?
The HBC requiring a patched IOS? Oh boy...I bet team twiizers will go bananas when reading this.

The short answer: no. Neither of those programs require you to patch an IOS. Some require the trucha bug to operate completely (like MMM), but cIOS236 (actually a trucha bugged IOS36, installed in slot 236) will do fine for that. So basically, JoostinOnline is correct on all parts.

On-topic, I'm afraid I can't add anything.

(well...I assume you didn't go haywire with priiloader hacks or menu themes. Or did something to your wii region. but you would have mentioned that by now).

The only possible cause I can think of is that your wii nand produced a bad block right where the system menu was stored. That would explain it...but I have no idea how to even check if that would be true.

(keep note: even if it's the wii nand that's failing, then it doesn't mean you should throw away your wii. at worst, you can check out sneek and use a hard drive and/or SD card to completely bypass the wii nand whatsoever).

You're correct in assuming I didn't use priiloeader or do anything to my region. I would never throw away my Wii because of all the Virtual Console and WiiWare games I purchased, but that's the reason I'm trying to get my Wii fixed. I can play games by using my boot2 to get into USB Loader GX.

well since you've already purchased the vc titles i beleve you can downoad them again for free (need to sign in again)

then you can make a new nand with ohneswanzenegger

EDIT: a new nand will erase everything form the wii, however on ohneswanzenegger, if you set your wii serial number to the same underneath your wii then you can sign back in again and then re-download the titles you have laready purchased

I'm pretty sure Ohneswanzenegger can be used to recreate a nand...not just "a virgin nand", so you could always make a bootmii backup and transfer the savegames to the new nand.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the shop purchases are saved on the wiiware/VC's ticket and not on the wii's serial number (if you buy and download wiiware/VC, it'll install a ticket - a very small file - and the channel itself. If you remove the channel, the ticket will remain, so you could redownload it in the future). So when making a new nand, I'd save that folder as well.

Before you do anything like trying to restore a custom NAND, make sure you do a full backup with bootmii.

After that, there is one more thing I would like you to try. Last year I was helping someone with a similar problem, although I don't remember much other than his System Menu freezing. I'd actually forgotten about this until just now. Anyway, the problem was fixed when every IOS (including the System Menu IOS's that were no longer used) was reinstalled. I didn't figure out what caused the problem in the first place, but it was fixed so he was happy.

Yesterday the IOS80 wad I had you install was just a single IOS from a pack I made for another guide. This time I'd like you to install the whole pack.

1) Backup and format your SD card.
2) Extract the contents of System Menu IOS.zip to your SD card.
3) Run md5summer.exe, click Verify Sums, and select System Menu IOS.md5
4) If everything verifies with no errors, continue. If you get any errors, redownload the pack and try again.
5) Eject the SD card and put it into your Wii.
6) Go into the HBC and install the wads exactly like you did with Update All Your IOS's.
7) See if the System Menu works.

Wouldn't this be the same thing as you had me to yesterday with the "Update All Your IOS's" instructions?

Yes, but I thought it would be better if I wrote instructions just for this.
I'm at work right now so I can't test this method, so I'm just trying to clarify everything I'll be doing when I get home. If I do this, will it not work since it didn't the first time?

The first time you only installed IOS80. This time you will be installing all of the System Menu IOS (with exception of IOS4 as it was pre-launch).

I don't mean to be a pain, but didn't "Update All Your IOS's" reinstall all the IOS's on my Wii?

No, it installed all that weren't for the System Menu or stubs. There was a spoiler called "What isn't installed, and why" in my guide. System Menu IOS's shouldn't be updated, as the latest versions (with the exception of IOS80) are all stubs. I didn't give you updated versions though, so it won't be a problem.

Btw, there is nothing wrong with asking questions, and you aren't being a pain.

Ok, great. I thought I may have been asking stupid questions. I just like to know exactly what does what and why. Thanks for answering a lot of my questions. I get off work in about 2 hours and I'll definitely try this solution as soon as I get home. If it doesn't work, I'll post a new sysCheck.

Disappointingly, it did not work. New sysCheck:

If I may interrupt. Going over that last SysCheck report, I am uncertain on what changes were made. I suggest starting from a clean slate and doing the following:
  • Using MMM, delete all the stubs.
  • Using ModMii, download new System Files. The options to do so in v4.5.3 are: 1, U, I, PR, 80K, M10, D, Y.
  • Copy the WAD folder from ModMii's COPY_TO_SD folder onto your SD card and use MMM to bulk install all the WADs.
This will install fresh versions of all current IOS, patched versions of all SM IOS, and latest System Channels. If your SM still freezes then it is either due to a channel banner or hardware malfunction.

To determine if you have a bad channel installed just delete all the non-official channels installed on your Wii using the Wii's channel manager or Any-Title-Deleter. Do not uninstall the Homebrew Channel.

Cool. I'm going to try this method. I've got ModMii downloading all the wads right now, and I'm browsing through MMM to see which IOS to delete. It's listing some IOS as being "Mothballed". Is that the same as being a stub? Or should I just use the "Remove stubbed IOSs" option?

(SIGH) This didn't work either. Also, I'm trying to uninstall any unofficial channels I have on the Wii but AnyTitleDeleter MOD keeps giving me a ret=-1 error

Sounds like a bad block in the system menu sector of your NAND. Since you have boot2 Bootmii installed, see if formatting your NAND fixes the issue.

Just some extra advice... Make a backup of your current NAND if you haven't already. This way you can always get back to the point you're at now just in case you have no luck with the formatter.

I've actually already tested this. I successfully dumped my nand, formated it, and loaded it back onto the Wii. My Wii was fully functional, I could go to the settings, access all menus, and it never froze. I loaded my old nand back onto my Wii because I still want to try to fix my Wii without losing my game saves and Shop Channel purchases.

Well if it worked then that's the problem and you won't fix your issue any other way. You can extract all your game saves with showmiiwads and reload. You can just re-download your shop channel purchases after the format or simply move them from your nand to your sd card.
