Two days ago my Wii loaded up perfectly fine. Today, it started to freeze and spit a buzzing noise out through my TV's speakers after it sits on the System Menu for a few seconds. I made sure to take out any GameCube controllers, memory cards and even tried removing the SD card. I am able to use BootMii to go into the Homebrew channel and load games through my USB Loader, among other numerous apps. I have not updated my Wii for about a month, so I don't know why it suddenly started doing this freezing issue. I am on System Menu 4.3U

What could the issue be, and what other information do I need to provide do get some good advice?

Do you have a disc in the drive?

I have a similar issue with rock band 2 (the retail game, mind you). Dunno why, but my wii just freezes when trying to load its banner. I don't mind much attention because I barely ever see the system menu, but still...

Oh, and perhaps reinstalling the system menu (check modmii) might help.

I actually read about that (having a disc in your drive), but unfortunately the Wii started the freezing with no disk inserted. I also tried turning the Wii on with a disk inside it but it still froze. As for installing the system menu, I tried using DOP-Mii to install it but it didn't work (installation error). Is there a way I can possibly reinstall the system menu without losing my homebrew?

Just an update: I ran Waninkoko's System Menu 4.3 Updater on my Wii again, and it still freezes at the same point when the System Menu loads.

    epic fail!

dude, don't use wanin's updaters, i don't even know what your problem is but don't use that! ModMii can do the same thing as that but safer

no disrespect to wanin, he's done some good work, but his updaters specifically have had problems so nuff said

I've tried reinstalling the System Menu and IOS 80 using several different homebrew apps but it still does the freeze. I am able to enter maintenance mode on my Wii just fine, though.

Did you install a new channel recently?

If the banner of those things are screwed up then it'll cause the wii menu to fail (banner brick). Removing that channel should solve it.

That's the weird thing. We didn't add, remove, or change anything on the Wii for it to start this problem.

That is a weird sysCheck! O.o

You shouldn't have patches on almost any of those IOS's. I wonder if this is a result of the 4.3 Updater. You said you reinstalled IOS80. What did you use to install it, and did you apply any patches yourself?

I don't believe I did. Would it be a good idea to uninstall IOS 80 then install it again?

NO! NEVER EVER EVER UNINSTALL A SYSTEM MENU IOS! That will land you with a full brick.

Use Multi-Mod Manager (or some other wad manager) to install this. It's IOS60 patched to slot 80 with the patches from DarkCorp v1.1. If your system menu still crashes, post another sysCheck.

Nope, didn't work. It installed correctly but it's still freezing.

This is a long shot, but maybe reinstalling your other IOS's could fix this. I wrote a guide on doing this. Follow Update All Your IOS's and use the Softmods section. Use the Update All IOS.zip pack, and make sure you read the Important Info section before starting.

To the moderators: I've read the rules on this site, and I think it's okay to link to offsite guides, but I'm sorry if I'm wrong.

Cool. I'll download this and update what's happened. Will this cause any problems with homebrew, since some of my things (USB Loader GX, Homebrew channel, etc) require certain IOS to be patched?

No. My guide only installs IOS's that are used for games (through the Disc Channel) and channels. A patched version of IOS36 is included, since that is used by some utilities. Things like USB loaders use cIOS's, which are in slots over 200 (unless you were to manually change them). They won't be touched.

Well, the report looks a lot cleaner now but I'm still getting that same freeze.

Yup, still does it. Odd that it would be a hardware problem yet I can still load up games through Maintenance mode or the homebrew channel using Boot2. Anyone else got any ideas?
