Hacking Wii-Clip Install!

Anyone have any idea where to buy them? (preferably with modchip already soldered, my soldering gun is a bit too big, and I'm way too clumsy to attach the modchip with no chance of failure)

Well, the thing is new.. we have to wait to see if it really is safe..

that's not done yet. that picture is not the finished product. you remove all the excess around the chip.
and like i said this is always a safer alternative than directly soldering because this will not void your warranty. so even if your wii does break you can send it for free repair. where as you can not if you have solder/ripped pads all over the place.

I don't think Nintendo worries about evidence of past soldering unless it's a very sloppy/obvious job with excess solder or a hole in the pcb.

My launch Wii was sent in with 2 semi-stripped screws, and 3 missing screws, and came back with a new d2c drive and had the screws replaced

but then again, it was sent in because of the brawl issue (warranty expired too)

edited to add: the clip doesn't seem worth the extra 20-30 bones because it's not proven 100% stable and i've yet to see a clip that beats a soldered connection for reliability.

And I have to take back some of the things I said, it is very very well made and i dont think it has a very good chance of moving or coming off.



I still dont like the way they tell people to cover it, it traps too much air, but the hole is not covered if you do it right.

the product doesn't need that massive protective paper over the top of it. Its like a massive blanket that is stopping air from moving around inside the wii

Ive only just had a chance to check my thread and noticed some random moans from luz type moaners (as the supporting guy said above), if you dont like it, dont read the thread.

Im sure theres hundreds of people who have seen the pics and at least now know the wii-clip works like it should.

Indeed that disc is Labelflashed with FIFA08 disc label, its not upside down.

If people didnt demonstrate their findings and photographed installs, this hacking section of gbatemp would be boring.

Im happy with the way it works, its a really tight fit, in fact you have to put it down one side and kind of apply pressure onto the otherside to slide it on. Its very stable though.

With regards to this whole overheating thing, i think its crap and if you are really worried, just change the base to one with an extra fan.

The Nintendo thing is true, there is no way to tell it has been opened, they have not left any sort of seal which you need to break like other consoles.

For the few people that appreciated this thread, glad you did.

Next time i test stuff out, i wont bother posting my findings here, because you only get lazy people who just take take take and give nothing but their lame comments back to the community. I was one of the first to get the clip, i assumed people would be excited to know if it works.

I for 1 am glad a fellow user shared his work, thnx. I ordered a presoldered wiiclip and d2ckey from techsick for 100bucks(pretty expensive I know but it's presoldered!), I cant wait!!

When using a Wii-Clip (with WiiKey, fe), do you still have to solder the WiiKey onto the clip? Or do you click it in somehow .

Well with Wii-Clip, they offer the Key-Clip, which is the ATmega8 chip (used by the Wiikey) and it comes with a programmer. So you won't need to solder anything. Just plug the Wii-Clip, into the programmer provided, flash the firmware from your computer onto the Wii-Clip and pop it on your drive chip.

I believe they are making another Wii-Clip which allows you to solder the Wiikey onto it.
