Hacking Wii and Gamecube Backup disk Queston

I want to put Wii and Gamecube games on Disk's to play on a backup lancher.
I know I need to put them on DVD-R's but there is something I must know.
does it matter if you can delete what's on the disk?
( Also, Just to make sure, I need to put ISO's on the disk right?)

You must be a dvd noob.
dvd-rs cannot be erased
you need to burn isos or gcms using imgburn
