between this thread and the ntsc version of the thead there isn't a single person saying if this game is decent or not.

!! the game asks to do a update, i wonder if this game is patched from NTSC to PAL? i have a PAL system and i won't use the disc at all until i've heard from someone else that the game boots fine without bricking the console!

a pal game with a pal update shouldn't brick a pal wii, logically anyway. I agree though, would rather let someone more adventurous to try it out first before trying it myself

I also want to know if this game is any good and worth buying. Currently you people suck at feedback even though many of you have already tried it without shedding any light on the game itself. Well done.

LOL I have to agree with you.
i've just purchased it anyway and i'll report back here when i've played it. it may take a few days but it's better than the feedback that's currently on offer here in this and the other BBA thread.

I have no idea how the game is like, but I just tested it on my Pal Wii (wiikey 2,2e) and it works perfect. It didnt do an update or anything.

now that's weird, i have the latest firmware version and i have wifi on but it still asked me to update? you sure you didn't patch it before you burned it?

can someone from europe confirm it has no bricking update or something? and just works and is a proper pal release thnx.

that's what i am waiting for , if i don't get a answer by the evening i will remove the update from the iso and reburn it and throw the other dvd away i think.

From what I've read here and on other forums, no one else is getting a request to update but yourself, at least no one else has claimed they have/have not had an update request

i guess no one believes me, maybe i should upload some pictures and that should show you i am not lying.

Well I'm just saying that no one else has mentioned the update appearing - the only time the update appeared in Big Brain Academy game was the US release and that "bricked" some machines. You may well be right in that it asks you for an update, but if you are worried then why not just use the brick blocker to remove the update prompt and run the game that way?

On Blackcats somone's saying the same about the torrent of BBA, however no one else's saying that there's an update. Maybe the download went wrong or something, very strange :S
Don't know what happend too the other guy though, if I hear it I'll post it

right, here are some pictures to show you i am NOT bluffing, i have no reason to at all!

i have the latest firmware version for a pal Wii console system
19072007048.jpg

when i try to update manually it says i already have the latest firmware which is true
19072007049.jpg

this is what wiifii is saying, it's 100% a pal game iso
regionfiibigbrainacademy.jpg

this is the nfo that came with the iso game, it's the same nfo that's posted here, right?
bigbrainacademynfo.jpg

picture of the actual disc that i am using, note it says PAL
19072007050.jpg

and finally this is what comes up in the disc channel, there is no animated title screen in the disc channel just this welcoming message instead, no way to escape it apart from turning the wii completely off.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
