the hardware hasn't been been fully hacked... not even close! Starlet is still encrpyted, and is still causing a huge problem, the hacks you see go AROUND Starlet, and are messy, and not that effecent!
Word of advice: Only present facts on topics you actually have a clue about.
Indeed. Then again, this is zidane_genome. I wouldn't expect any less from him.

wait what?? I'm fairly confident that my XBOX 1 is hacked to the gills as are my XBOX 1 games.

So, you've fully decrypted Starlet, and are able to bypass all the security measures, and inject your own code? What? Speak up a little louder... I couldn't hear that... what? NO?? That's what i thought... now, go back to bashing everyone for pirating on a pirating website... stupid douche...

We can essentially control the Wii entirely at this point.

Heck, we could replace all the Wii stuff with a simple stub that just loads code from the front SD slot upon boot.
The only reason we DON'T do this is because the Wii has a very nice system, and it would take a lot of code to provide both on-boot-unrestricted homebrew capability while preserving normal Wii functionality.

Hence, we'd like to do as much as possible without touching the current Wii system. BootMii is going to be the closest thing to total control until enough code floats around to make a complete System Menu/Wii system replacement.

Technically, we've been able to control the Wii entirely ever since last december (via boot2 hacks), and more practically speaking since, say, before the first HBC 10min demo was released (when we could already install IOSes and mod them at will.

Ever since then it's been a learning process to understand the Wii. All the security was already broken.

Anyway, to answer the original question, it goes like this:

The Wii was hacked because the drive was basically the same as in a Gamecube and we could run Gamecube homebrew and the Wii system security had some terrible holes.

And what zidane was talking about:
zidane_genomeSo, you've fully decrypted Starlet, and are able to bypass all the security measures, and inject your own code?

1. Decrypting data
Running gamecube homebrew let us poke around on the system at a low, simple level. From that, Team Twiizers got the Wii's encryption keys (See Hackmii: "Keys, keys, keys").

2. Bypassing security measures
We just had to find bugs in security. Trucha signing pretty much let us get past anything that wanted signed Nintendo code easily. This is at least somewhat important for running IOS code, although not as important for PPC stuff. Of course, this also enabled stuff like VC piracy.

3. Injecting our own code
This just required savegame exploits/signed security holes along with encryption/decryption keys and knowledge of the data encoding/encryption processes.

One two three.
One happened because Nintendo left full GC compatibility in.
Two and three happened because we found bugs. The Trucha/fakesigning bug specifically was a huge and terrible bug.

BUT XBOX 1 GAMES HAVE STILL NOT BEEN DECRYPTED!!!!!!!! And those are 8 years old! With todays technology, nobody has figured it out?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

i don´t know if it´s needed to have them decrypted(whatever that means ) .. i have the games stored (and played from) a big hardrive inside my xbox for many years now...

xbox1 hacking was probably the best hack ever

Well basically the XBOX1 hack was like other hacks. Once you get full system control it's the skys the limit. The thing with the XBOX was that it was basically a Computer. So porting all the neccesary librabrys to get advanced stuff like the XBMC running didn't take too much effort. Whereas the Wii has it's own architecture, so everything needs to ported to the Wii specific archticture which takes some serious coding work to do..

The Wii had only been out a few months and you could chip it.
A year or two later, the filesystem was cracked. You could change regions of games and modify them in other ways.
Then the hardware was fully hacked and you can install pretty much anything onto the main Wii menu.
It's pretty much been hacked 100%, not many limitations remain, if any.

Let me stop you right there... the hardware hasn't been been fully hacked... not even close! Starlet is still encrpyted, and is still causing a huge problem, the hacks you see go AROUND Starlet, and are messy, and not that effecent!

Wait, what do you think QUIX does? I've decrpyted many many many Xbox 1 games, installed the Xbox Media Center, installed a new HardDrive, and have a working softmod on my Xbox 1... so, yea, you kinda just threw up on the page a little there...

Sure, you can play xbox 360 backups, but thats it. No other hardware or software modding or hacking. And NOTHING on the PS3.

Is there no demand?
Are the smart people like Bushing and Waninkoko all taken by the Wii and there's nobody left to hack the other consoles?
Or was the Wii just easy to hack?

What else would you like to see via hardware or software mod? Want it to perform oral sex on you while you play DoA Volleyball so you can use both hands on the controller? The point of a modchip is to play backups... a softmod does the same thing. What other mods or hacks can you think of?? Seriously...

The PS3 has too much "new" tech inside... BluRay discs are about $20 each, and with the cost of the burner, it's cheaper to buy the real game right now... so, really, what's the point in pirating if your going to be spending MORE money than buying the game legit? The 360 has been hacked to death, so has the Xbox...

Seriously, what more do you want?!? I really would like you to answer that... what more do you want in a mod from any current or last gen console? (Wii, GameCube, Xbox, PS2, PS3, 360, and hell, I'll even toss in the PS1!)

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY MY LEGIT XBOX 360 GAMES ON MY LEGIT XBOX 360 CONSOLE!

Geez, ever heard about REGION ENCODING???? HELLO?!

Just because I moved, I can't play any damn games from here, and you think 'everythings been done'? HAHAHA!

Wow, I might be clueless about the technical side of things. I'm a n00b. But you, you're just.. clueless, thinking there's nothing else to be done on the xbox 360 and ps3. There's like a million things, from modifying the games, to real homebrew (accessing all hardware), to region free, to loading everything off a HDD, to... need I really go on? Really?

We're still in the WII Hacking thread, right?

http://gaming.wikia.com/wiki/Region_Free_Xbox_360_Games has a list of region-compatible games. The short answer is that 90% of 360 games ARE ALREADY REGION FREE! If you purchase a German game, it's most likely region locked.

Sorry to say, but the masses have already found a way around your region-locked problem and it's not a prevalent enough issue to force it.

Regarding the PS3: Have you even looked? BD-J was supported which allowed certain emulators and, in a sense, homebrew games. Unfortunately Sony sealed this in 2.50. There have been NAND dumps and ECC Flashes, the HDD has been expanded up to 750GB (or so). Linux allows Homebrew-like programs already. Blu-Ray and HD movies have been decrypted to run on the PS3. Even PSProxy was released (and fixed).

What the PS3 has not done is allow ISOs / PSN titles to be bootable via HDD or backups to be played. Think about it... a Blu-Ray disc is up to 50GB. I'm sorry but, the time and effort to back that up / download that and magically fit it on a DVD isn't worth it right now. As stated before, it's cheaper now to buy than burn.

The Wii is hacked to Hell and back.
The PSP is hacked to Hell, back, and Beyond.
The 360 is hacked to Hell.
The PS3 is a WIP.

Do some more google searches next time and put your complaints in to the proper console's forums.

I think the main reason people *think* the wii is more hacked is due to the fact that you can do so much without any hardware modifications. The 360 requires you to take apart your 360 and re-flash the dvd drive on your computer, which is a pain in the butt. All you need to run homebrew on the wii is zelda and two or three files you can get off the net.

Also, respectively, playing backups is NOT the same as true homebrew. The wii has an actual homebrew scene with demo apps, emulators, games ect... The 360 and ps3, not so much.

As for the ps3, as the others have stated, blueray players and media are expensive, hindering progress. Also, as others have stated, it is rather silly to go to the trouble of hacking a system that runs linux natively.

LOL! I went off topic because some schmuck said 'there's nothing more to be done on other consoles, give me a list of things still not done'. As for 90% of 360 games being region free, YOU should do a google search or two:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360...uide-49-en.html

More like 20%, if even that. You were so far off it's hilarious.

The Wii was able to play other region games at a much higher rate than the 360. After being fully hacked, anyone can play any game from any region on any Nintendo Wii.

Even the GC and Wii hackers themselves have posted on here saying the Wii was the easiest hacked, AND THAT IT'S FULLY HACKED. Much unlike the 360 which *only* does backups and the ps3 which does nothing except play originals.

Why do you post about things you know nothing about?

I haven't looked into it really but here is what I know.

360 can't run homebrew because we can't decrypt the dashboard or something. The only reason it can be pirated on is because the drive is pretty much a standard SATA drive, and you just flash the firmware to allow burnt DVDs.

PS3 has A LOT of security. Hypervisor, double encryption (or something) and all this other crap.
Not to mention piracy on it pretty much REQUIRES homebrew, because no one wants to pay $20 to burn on game.

Yeh, It's cheaper to buy a PS3 game then to burn one off, maybe it didn't work so you burn it again...lol
