Hacking Why is Softmii the best for backups?

There are several other reason i say compatability is higher. For one if the game supports your video mode it defaults to it, no need to force anything.

Unfortunately this isn't true. Gamma does this yes, but with Softmii you have to use ARC to force the console video mode.

If I leave it on PAL, NTSC games don't work. If I switch it to NTSC, a select few PAL games don't work.

Actually it is true. If the hacks are all applied properly and the game is able to support your video mode it will default to it.

One thing: SoftMii doesn't enable backups to load! CIOSCorp does! SoftMii is just a package! And CIOSCorp is better than loaders.

And what hacks would that be? The Preloader force region hack doesn't work correctly. It even causes some games that work normally to get a black screen.

I am still fairly new to all of this, but I have learned alot in the last 2 months. Especially with the help of some of the Great people on this forum.. I have tried gamma.3B, I have tried riiski and softmii.95 and am going to continue with the softmii.. It is far superior than the others. The disc channel loads up games from any region and I have tried 10 games that wouldn't load with gamma loader and they work 100% now..
I have yet to find a game that won't work on my system now. Far better compatibility in my opinion and easy as pie if you follow the instructions. I have only been in on this for about 2 months and if I can do it..
Anyone can. I semi-bricked 3 times.. (thought the wife was going to kill me),and thanks to you guys and the Great support on this forum I was able to bring it back from the dead..

Again i say this. the ARC that came with the package HAS to be used if you want things to work the way they are suppossed to. I am NTSC and have 25 pal games that work perfectly in full ntsc mode color from disc channel. Yeah CiosCorp is what enables the channel loading. If you hadn't noticed the people who put out softmii are some of the same people involved in working out cioscorp. And no with gamma you have to region force. with softmii you don't. To anyone it isnt working right for do the following
Run the ARC included with softmii
Install the system menu 3.2 with ARC, Select NO to korean hacks, YES to twiizer/starfall.
Install Preloader, with the latest hack.ini all enabled (don't use the original it caused compatibility errors)
Then Install CIOSCORP, even if you have already done so.
Now try your out of region games. If they don't work then they are most likely not 1:1 copies.
The few games that only support one region will need to be region changed, or forced via gamma. I have one game that was like this, but strangely without chaning the region it now works perfectly. Dont ask me why.
And DONT use arc to force a different region unless you are an advanced user. As it really isn't necessary.

I love Softmii, so far about 20 different backups have worked for me, all from various regions. Including House of the Dead 2 and 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

The ONLY game I have had ANY kind of issue with at 1:1 has been New Play Control Pikmin.

Ether taught me how to patch it properly however, and now it runs with Softmii as well.

I LOVE gamma as well, it works great, but I enjoy using the disc channel and having a custom health screen

I don't feel like reading, but SoftMii does absolutely nothing to the backups. cIOSCORP does it. SoftMii is for tweaking the system menu now.

Does Softmii include a newer version of ARC then? I have the one included with the first Riiski release and have to do the whole video mode fiddling thing.

The ARC you have from RiiskiMod is the same as the one that comes with SoftMii. SoftMii is RiiskiMod just with the new customizable Heath Screen and a better Noob friendly guide.

Hiya im new to the forum..

Just installed softmii, easy if you follow the instructions.
I tried Call Of Duty 5 Backup and it shows it in the disc channel but when i click start it tells me there is an error, to eject the disc and restart the wii..any help plz? It works in Gamma but not in Softmii.

actually its just because CoD5 for PAL regions is finicky with cIOSrev7 in general.
disc channel is no more or less "sensitive" it just uses a different method to boot discs, so results (as always) will vary

ps: try just booting it through recovery menu with softmii, works fine, just tested FOR you.
ps2: and the noobs that have flooded since riskii are very annoying, because they mouth off to everything based on heresay. where are the junior-in-training IronMask's or djtaz's or EmperorOfCanada's of the gbatemp universe? thats what Im asking.

and noob actually the disc channel is more sensitive to scratches. it doesn't have the re-read code that gamma does to help with error issues.

I'm not sure why people started saying twiizers have 6x, they are the ones who specifically said that only 3x was possible the way that they created it. strange what gets around.
