Hacking Why .elf?

Im sorry if standardisation is beyond this, i just thaught it wouldbe simpler. Since the extention didnt really matter, as it seems to have been posted, i didnt see what the difficulty was.

I do think something to make it clearer which console an executable need would be quite helpful. As for how, I'm not sure.

.dol is also a Wii format, it's the native Wii/GC executable format that can be found in channels and game discs
.elf is a generic format output by the compilation chain, it contains debug symbol which are ripped by objcopy to produce a .dol file (that's why .dol files are smaller)

gamecube applications also come in .elf file originally, you just never saw them because DOL loaders were out since the beginning whereas the first Wii homebrew loader was only supporting elf format

just use .dol files, THIS is the wii executable format, you only need to pay attention in which mode the application has been compiled (GC or Wii)
