Nintendo has released a cryptic 15-second video titled "Emio" or "笑み男" (Smiling Man) on their social media channels.

The video features a lost-footage style scene with a man wearing a trench coat and a brown paper bag with a smiley face drawn on it. Eerie piano music plays in the background as the camera cuts from a close-up of the man's hand to the paper bag, where the smile changes to a wide grin.

The clip has also been uploaded to the Nintendo UK YouTube channel where it is preceeded by a viewer discretion warning and the PEGI 18 (adults only age rating) logo.

I'm in the minority of being quite stoked for this. The original Famicom Detective Club games looked decent for being remakes of Famicom games, so I have high hopes for a completely new game.

You probably play Zelda and Mario. I'm truly fascinated by this new game, looks to be a visual-novel type. Could be good for all I know.

I'm in the minority of being quite stoked for this. The original Famicom Detective Club games looked decent for being remakes of Famicom games, so I have high hopes for a completely new game.

They were shockingly good all around. Definitely had some janky choice mechanics at times but were overall amazing

You can be excited without dogging on me or my tastes that you know nothing about. Amongst Mario and Zelda I also like shooters, JRPGs, action games, social games, rhythm games, metroidvanias, and a ton of other genres and series. Even the occasional VN (read: Ace Attorney). It just kinda feels like the rug was pulled out from under us to have a mysterious and cryptic teaser that has the aura of a new IP only to find that it's... just a visual novel. I'm not discounting the quality of Visual Novels either. I'm just saying that they're a dime a dozen right now.

It's not even a new visual novel. It's a sequel to an existing IP.

A sequel is basically a new IP in the VN industry. VNs are so text heavy that you can reuse assets everywhere and it is unrecognizable past that
