The latter is clocked higher and has twice the memory. The 8XXX series and the 9XXX use more or less the same chip (they both have the same number of stream processors).

I would agree with Scorpei though, my 7900GS still does fine.

GTA 4 needs at least 8800gt...well, maybe not if you can play at 5fps.

Right, although I'm repeating myself, might I suggest getting an 7900GT over what you have suggested yourself? It simply performs better in games. That is whay I and FAST suggested it. If you don't believe that check tomshardware's FPS benchmark tests.

1. That's dual core, not 2 CPUs lol

2. 6150SE is pretty crappy in games. Sure it will work, especially for office and prolly arrow, but you sure need an upgrade

Not so much, that which you quoted doesn't mean it anyway (haven't checked the link). It doesn't really matter though as none of the current graphics cards really push for PCI-E 2.0. They are also backwards compatible with older PCI-E connections. If you really wanna know if you fully support PCI-E you should/could check which motherboard you have and try looking for that online (but seeing as you have a compraq I don't know how much that will help you).

He is playing at low settings at a very low resolution. Which is crap. It's better to get something decent if you want to play the game. At least a 8800 GT which will have problems on higher resolutions.

i doubt a 9400 would work...my friend has a 9600 and a few scenes it lags quite a bit.

When we say struggle, we mean that a certain game runs below 30fps under a desired resolution. I have a Geforce 8800 GT video card and it is supposed to be almost as good as the 9800 GT because nVidia used the same processor that generation, however, even then it was struggling to get GTA IV around 30fps with the settings around medium high and resolution at 1680X1050.

However, trust me, even with that card, you will run GTA IV at 800X600 resolution with everything turned medium or even low, or it will be unplayable.

GTA IV is not THAT beautiful, it's just a horrible port.
