Before changing the PS3's HDD, should I sync trophies, make a full backup via XMB and restore it after changing the HDD or should I download certain files and folders to the PC and then upload them to the new HDD after switching the previous one, and if so, which files and folders should I download and would I be able to load the games and their settings, DLC and apps and their settings after rebuilding the PS3's database?

I was thinking on downloading the folders in /dev_hdd0/game, the PS3 game saves and RIF, EDAT, act.dat and xRegistry.sys files.

Will RIF files work after rebuilding the PS3's database or do I have to download RAP files again from the Internet and convert them to RIF again to be able to run the PSN games and DLC?

Also, if I upload xRegistry.sys to the new HDD and rebuild the PS3's database, will I have the same XMB settings I had?

I've just switched HDD's and redid the hack in the new one. I've got a super slim model with hen 1.88. Didn't bother with transfer files tbh, since one hdd is my brother's and the other is mine.

When you pull the old HDD out of a PS3 how to you get windows to be able to recognize and use that drive again?

I connect it with my sata/ide to USB connector and I see nothing.

It's subjective. E.g. Music, pictures, homebrew apps (or re-dl), and saves.

Assuming you've got the games backed up on an HDD there's no need to waste time with that.
