Hello all, I'm sure that this topic is beat to death, but I had trouble finding any recent threads about my specific needs.

I'm wondering if there is any reason to get a better or updated R4 card than the normal R4-SDHC(from nds-card most likely) if I'm mainly wanting to play old Game boy color games on a DS lite via Gameyob?

I have no interest in ever upgrading to a 3DS, and only minimal curiosity about even playing standard standard DS games with it.

I've already got a bunch of Roms and Rom hacks on a computer, but want a portable system to play them(and yes, I've even had or currently have all the physical games of what I've downloaded). I've got my wife's old DS lite to use. I figure this will be cheaper and easier than fixing up my Game boy color and replacing a bunch of save batteries.

Thanks,
Jake

Ok, I got the R4 card suggested in this thread. It's not working for me, and I'm having trouble finding a good setup tutorial that is up to date.

When I select the card on the DS, I get a permanent black screen. I'm trying to set it up on a Mac if that matters.

What kind of MicroSD card are you using and how did you format it? As well did you make sure the switch was set to DS-Mode instead of NTRboot?

Sandisk is a recommended SD card brand to use with flashcarts. PNY (Supposedly the best brand) is the next best thing but they are pretty expensive.

Edit:
Meant to quote both of you but meh, follow what Lilith said then look at mine lol.

It's set to DS mode(I opened it up and checked). I'm using a SanDisk 16GB micro SD. It came formatted in fat32.

I've used serveral MicroSDs from different manufacturers (SanDisk, Kingston, Samsung, Medion, Hama, No brand and Toshiba) and they all work. I never had a problem with a specific brand.
The main problem are MicroSD cards that are not formatted properly or MicroSD cards that get pulled out of the PC without savely ejecting them.
