The thought of buying a PSP never occurred to me until I was browsing Amazon and stumbled upon it and its relatively cheap price. Theres quite a few models so I was wondering which one should I get? Is the PSP 1000 obsolete? I don't mind it having less extra features, just want to play games well.

i just got myself seduced with the piano black psp 3000 god of war package

AWESOMe piece of a device, though the analog stick can hurt my thumb after a while

dont know about others models stick config though but i would still advice it for the sexy widescreen and light weight

Speaking about Amazon, this is what happened to me ( and I'll just copy and paste from the other topic since it's relevant ) :

Thanks, very clear and easy to follow instructions.
I have a PSP 3000 piano black in the mail ( expect to get it delivered in the next couple of days ) and I can't wait to hack it.
Hopefully , it's not gonna be one of those new naughty unhackable firmware on it, or the whole 9g business, I got it new from Amazon.
I played almost everything on the DS, now it seams a good time to own a PSP.
Cheaper then ever, easy to hack, and a vastly catalog of games to choose from......
At least, it's gonna keep me busy until the 3DS gets a decent library as well.
Let's just hope I'm gonna be able to hack it.
By the way, what are the chances that a piano black PSP3000 comes with a firmware >6.35 ?

QUOTE(hunter291 @ May 16 2011, 01:37 PM) I don't know what the newest PSP 3000 ship with, but as you bought it new from amazon, the chances that you have a 9g one are very high. so permanent is not an option for you. that the psp has firmware 6.35 or less is more likely, so you need to install the 6.35.

WOW......................I just got my PSP3000............Just WOW.........!
First, I checked the firmware, and to my surprise and delight, it was 6.20 !!!!!!!!!!!
Second, I installed the 6.20 Pro B5 (worked like a charm ) and checked the motherboard type, and..............it was 0.4g

!!!!!!!
Next , I applied the permanent patch, and now my shiny new PSP3000 is fully hacked !
There are no words to describe how happy I am, I was already accepting the fact that I was lucky if I was gonna get a 6.35 and semi hack it, now I just can't believe my luck !!!!!!

So I would recommend you the PSP3000, if you can get as lucky as me !

mine came with OFW 6.30 actually

i got it to 6.31 to try out my GOW copy then i put through USB the 6.35 + pro b5, so far everything worked like a charm, except few psp minis; one named Tehra dark warrior and another hysteria project has crackling in sound it seem but still playable

edit : the Thera dark warrior one comes to the XMB with damaged files icon, cannot launch.. iv tried several copies of the cso/iso, same goes for sound issue of hysteria probably a comptibility issue of pro b5?

I personally chose a 2000 with stock 3.xx firmware due to the bonus RAM and the TV-Out, plus it can be permahacked. Heard that later 200x's can be problematic though, so you'd have to pick it yourself (aka, turn it on, check System Menu, check what's on the label under the battery, compare it online to chech the mobo etc. etc.)

If you wanna be on the safe side of things, get a 1000.

It doesn't really matter all that much nowadays, nearly all models are hackable either permanently or chick-hen-ish.

1. for Homebrew: PSP-1000
2. for UMD Gaming and Movies: PSP-2000
3. for Portable Gaming and Movies: PSPgo
4. for All-Around Performance and Value: PSP-3000
