Hey there,

I've been searching around to see what the differences are between the PSP Phat and slim & lite. I've read that the phat has better homebrew support, but the Slim & Lite has double the amount of memory which makes for better loading times. My question is if it is possible to put custom firmware on a PSP Slim & Lite with 3.90 or 4.1 firmware? Also what's the difference in homebrew support between Phat and Slim? I don't care much about homebrew, except for the PSX, N64 and GBA emulators. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but all faqs I can find are either outdated or are telling different things. It's getting quite confusing

Thanks for the help!

Yes, but only the early PSP slim, I have PSP slim (PSP 2006) with cfw 4.01. Late PSP slim can't be hacked, also PSP brite (PSP 3000 can't be hacked).

Sorry, I don't know about homebrew.

Early PSP 2000's can make Pandora batteries via softmod which is now handy but hardly essential. The majority of the rest of the PSP 2000's out there had their EEPROM write function disabled (meaning they can't softmod batteries) but will still be able to run CFW. Only the latest wave of PSP 2000's are unhackable, but it's likely that if you intend to buy new you'll get one of these.

I'd certainly advise you to track down a Slim PSP capable of running CFW. If anything with the extra RAM and the now redundant 1.50 kernel the Slim is the better choice for homebrew in todays PSP scene.

My biggest problem is that here in the Netherlands most shops only have PSP-3000 bundles now, those older bundles aren't available anymore. I've sent an e-mail to a local shop specialising in modchips, flashcards and the likes. They sell 2000 versions for a low price. In my e-mail I asked if they could tell me if it was possible to put CFW on those PSP's, but I'm still waiting for their answer. If so, I'll buy the PSP there and then put CFW on it myself or let someone else do it. They are asking 40(!) euro for custom firmware. The consoles they offer (that aren't modded) and loose parts are cheap, everything else is incredibly expensive.

So, I'll just await their response and in the meantime continue my search for older bundles.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.

He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.

What matters now is that he's doing alright.
